Hi James, Was it something like this that you had in mind - lights external to the bookshelf but angled towards it? Or would you consider having lights installed within the bookshelf itself? I know you mentioned you're looking for adjustable lights, but it doesn't seem like the light in the following photo spills into the rest of the room, and you might be able to get more coverage with these kinds of spotlights:

Hi, There are so many options when designing childrens bedrooms. It really depends also on what styles you and your son both like. Personally I like black & white in a kids room and then the colour is added by their toys, textiles and artwork. The room is then more flexible and can grow through the years without being repainted all the time. Wall stickers can also be a good and flexible way of adding some images/patterns and are then easily removed when needed. Attached are some pics for inspiration, hope they help. I’ve struggled to find an example of a natural wood bookshelf that hasn’t been painted over, to be honest! I would paint the inside the same shade as your walls. That way it will marry well with the colours in your room. Without seeing the rest of the room it is hard to suggest a colour. This pic is a bookcase I found that, although not natural wood, it shows how nice a white can look inside.
