Design Dilemma Gardens landscape design

If anyone could provide advice on how to style my very run down yard I would be very grateful as I have zero idea! I want something low maintenance. It gets loads of sun so probably want to redo the decking area and make it somewhere we can sit in the summer. We haven’t touched it since we moved in and I have no knowledge when it comes to gardening jobs so any help is appreciated.

Had some thoughts about your garden and came up with a rough sketch:) (see pic). Decking outside the garden office would look nice but I’m not sure about bringing it all the way to the house as decking can take a fair amount of maintenance although you can get composite decking or slabs that look like wood which would probably be easier to look after. I think breaking it up and having some planting would be nice and more pleasing to look at. So on the sketch I brought the decking to surround the office windows then added a small seating area and space for planting which could include a small pond or water feature. This could be like a contemplation area where you can relax and have a tea break:) Instead of decking pathway I think slabs or tiles to match the patio would be better. The patio I’ve kept as is but extended a little to include bbq area. Did think that putting the bbq on the right side of patio might be good as well. Put in some extra planting areas but that’s just because I like plants:) planting pocket is basically a hole in the deck but some tall grasses or similar with lighting would look great on the left side of the office and help to balance things out. Not sure on a pergola mainly because I think adding another tall structure on the left would make that side of the garden seem overly busy but it’s entirely up to you what you want. Anyway hope this gives you some fresh ideas:) P.s. sketch is not to scale.

Lots of tutorials on how to build a pool/pond on youtube. Probably better than a long list of instructions. Keep in mind though that earth doubles in volume when dug up so 8x2x0.4 will give you about 12 cubic meters that will need to be disposed of.

There are several moss killers you could try. Moss and algae thrives in wet, dank and shady areas. It rarely grows in sunny spots. So…….get that tap replaced and then purchase some moss killer, there are loads online.

Outdoor lighting

I’m no expert but I have 2 lights in my back garden (no idea of wattage, sorry) - one on the house wall and one on the garage wall which is at the end of the garden. This gives us plenty of light for when we return home on a dark evening. They are both activated by movement, but can be overridden and switched on manually. I also have a few solar lights to pretty up the garden. In my non expert opinion I think you may have too many lights. You must be considerate to your neighbours and if you have a floodlight then that alone will light up your garden, and some of your neighbours!

I think it will be greatly improved with large planters and pots full of plants. You have a lovely pink shrub in a pot so it’s a start! You could paint the walls but to be honest if you have lovely plants no one notices the walls! In my experience deck paint is rubbish, but you could get an outdoor rug to put on it or over the concrete area. They are made of recycled plastic and are completely impervious to rain so it can stay out. You could add an outdoor mirror nestled amongst the plants or a piece of outdoor art. And lights, you need solar lights which really cheer up an outside space. Comfy outdoor seating or a mini table and chairs is a must. The first pic is part of my patio which we use a lot in this nice weather. The other pics are ideas.
