Need help with pendant lights over a kitchen island
Comments (1)A good lighting showroom should be able to help you with this - there will be lots of options and your choice is likely to depend on your anticipated use of the island or specific areas on it. Different bulbs and fittings will give different spread of light which, in turn, will be further affected by the height of the bulb above the working surface. As you won't want to be working in your own shadow you will most likely want a wide lighting angle so it will be a nearby bulb, not the one above you, which gives your task lighting. I'm not sure where you're based but Thompsons Lighting in Larne, Co Antrim (www.thompsonslighting.co.uk) are very helpful and knowledgeable....See MoreHelp needed! Comments (7)Hi Dominic, Although I would say it's not ideal to have a door opening onto the island, 1.4 is a good distance. It's nice to have an unbroken pathway from the door through if you can. Of course, this isn't always possible. How far are your units from the island? If you have draws they don't pull out as far as a cupboard door so you can look around 1-1.1m meters. This also makes it easier to turn without taking a step which is handy when taking things out the oven etc If you bring them a little closer, could the island finish in-line with the door so it's not opening onto the island ( without knowing the current distance... this might not be possible). Could you shift the opening a little closer to the bathroom door? Or what about having no door and just the opening?...See Morekitchen design help needed!!! must have: island & log burner
Comments (12)Hi Hayley. I think I would use the garage as a living room - it will be such a nice space with the exposed beams, and putting a fire in here will make it amazing! So, I would make the kitchen and island similar to the below - you will then have space to have a walk in pantry or utility room (or even just other storage) behind the kitchen. If you are wanting/able to move the boiler, then this would open up more space, but would also cost a lot more. If you went with this sort of layout, there is a few ways you could configure the full height kitchen units. I think its important to have both an island/breakfast bar, and then a free standing table, as i feel the image you shared above from Wren, there is a bit of a disconnect between the kitchen and the island. Let me know if you have any further questions! :)...See MoreKitchen Island sizing help
Comments (7)I think you’re getting an island and a peninsula mixed up. You have planned a peninsula. An island you can walk all the way around. The downturn that I think you’re referring to is known as a waterfall. You don’t seem to have a lot of worktop or storage space so just have as many storage cupboards as you can comfortably fit. If you do want a deeper peninsula and can’t afford 600mm deep back to back units you could always consider a base unit at 600mm deep on one side and a wall unit at 300mm deep on the reverse of it. You would just need to buy the legs separately. Once the worktop is on nobody will know....See More- 6 years ago
