bedroom decor help!!

we have recently moved into our new build house...and need some inspiration for our main bedroom.
need a new bed - what style and colour would suit?
need bedside tables - what style depends on the bed we get...
need bedside lights..which will hang down from the ceiling to bed height.

we have a lovely blue velvet sofa in our room which I want to keep...so decor will have to match around this. cushions can go ...only been there to add colour...don't necessarily have to keep.

carpet is off white.

doors are walnut.

we have 4 walnut doors in our room ...big window, corner window and the bifold doors....so lots of light!!

can anyone help me with any ideas...I am stuck after having the whole house to think about!!

You have walnut doors (lovely) and then have an oak bed (well it looks like oak). The two clash. If you’re looking for a bed that has a timber surround it has to be walnut to match the doors. Otherwise opt for a standard bed with a feature headboard.

Again with the bedside tables and bearing in mind you have lots of light in the room I would look at walnut. Walnut has lovely warm tones.

if you’re going to add any colour I’d opt for orange as it tones well with walnut and it would also contrast nicely against the blue sofa.

At the risk of contradicting previous advice, warm colours suit a dark and north facing room much better. If you are set on blue, then I would go with a rich dark blue - Stiffkey has been mentioned and it is an awesome shade. You could then do the paintwork to co-ordinate with the wardrobes to tie them in, and use patterned or textured soft furnishings as a bridge between the two colours. Embracing the fact that the room is dark rather than fighting it gives you the chance to make it a cosy nest, with plenty of texture to break up big blocks of colour and make it even more warm. A blackout blind and soft full patterned drapes will get around the radiator under the window issue and add more interest. I see you have metallic lamps - more metallics and and clever use of mirrors will help reflect any light you do have in the day, and your low level lamps will help make it warm and intimate at night with reading light as a bonus. Hi Anna. The chairs work, I just find personally they're a little dark. I'd add a gold cushion on one and a throw over the arm of the other. A pretty scarf may work better sizewise and for draping. I think I'd go for a Louis cane chair without arms for the desk. Although the desk looks quite short (?) so if so perhaps a velvet footstool. What exactly were you looking to change in terms of decor and people can then make suggestions for a rug? It's another lovely room and I hope you don't mind me saying but I'm not sure the chest works that well in terms of style and colour.

Hi, are the walls grey? I think painting the bed frame would be a great idea. I would paint it a soft taupe, which is a sort of grey and beige mash up! Farrow & Ball Purbeck Stone might be nice, but they have loads of lovely neutrals. . I would use eggshell paint which gives a soft sheen but best to use a primer first. The rug is gorgeous, good choice. I think introducing some taupe in the cushions would be good. Painting the wall behind the bed in a deeper taupe may help lift it too. If painting the bed is too much effort, it would still work as adding a deep shade to soft neutrals helps to life the scheme. yes correct doors are walnut and bed is oak...but bed is to go!
I would prefer a material large feature headboard just not sure what colour to compliment??

orange is a good contrast colour, thankyou hadn't thought of that.

@HU-290967725 - thanks for the images does help to get different ideas. I love gold with the navy but the sofa has silver studs on so I think it wouldn't link...do you think?

I think a cosy bed with a padded headboard would be great. There are loads out there. I particularly like velvet, sumptuous and cosy! Have you got the Pinterest App? It’s a fab place to find images, including decor, and I find it invaluable. Have a look at the Houzz Photos too, just search bedrooms, blue velvet sofa etc and lots of images pop up. Do you like bright, light colours, or dark and moody? Here’s a few photos, both light and dark rooms.

@sonia. thankyou for the images. lovely ones. I prefer the lighter tones (for myself) and would like to create a smart hotel like feel to the bedroom.
thinking perhaps a bed in colour similar to the first you posted with perhaps some wallpaper on the wall behind the bed to make the headboard stand out and tie in with the sofa

Sounds lovely abby. Pinterest gives you so many photos that it helps you see what you like and don’t like and is very inspirational. You can save photos too. Good luck!
