HI I am looking for a splashback that goes with the Statuorio Maximus - I would have loved the stone as the splashback to but can't afford it - I would like something which has the less grout as possible but don't know what colour to get

Hello Keryn,

thank you for getting in touch, I think that any light grey would complement really well your existing worktops, also a nice flat light grey glass would work really well.

I would replace the dark worktop for a white one, if you need a refreshing look as no light bounces on dark worktops, hence why yours looks so cramped. then you add a white splashback too, subway white tiles are the cheapest of tiles and glossy ones bounce off the light great, which creates a more airy kitchen.. If you go for mirror splashback, unless you have OCD and enjoy cleaning 3 times a day, then forget it. it will always look smudged.

Thanks for replying that looks lovely. Unfortunately the upstand and splashback are not the same material - I'm trying to spruce up what I have rather than starting from scratch. So the new upstand will be the same material as existing worksurface but that material wouldn't work for the splashback. If I had the money I'd definitely go for a different work surface. But I don't so I'm trying to work with what I have in a cost-effective way but for maximum effect...if you see what I mean.

Do you have shelves or wall cupboards either side of the extractor that might hide the problem? I agree with Jonathan that the height of the extractor is not cast in stone. It's a recommended minimum. The extraction will not be as efficient but if we're talking 10mm or so it's not the end of the world. The solution depends on how much of a perfectionist you are. If it was constantly in my line of vision as being not straight it would drive me crazy. I'm sure it won't be noticeable once it is all finished. Lesson learned for next time.

Many thanks everyone. We are still working through this decision (amongst many others that come along with the work we are doing at home). We've seen some brick looking materials (can't remember the names) but they seem easier to clean. Also we've not discarded the option of using glass or not using 'bricks' at all, and your input has helped!
