Any designer help out there please!!
My design dilemma is that I’m trying to choose between Pewterwood and Moire Black Certainteed landmark pro or premium Roof shingles. I need to make a decision pretty soon our contractor is waiting. I have a traditional Cape Cod style home the pitch of the roof is a 12/12 it faces the street and slopes gradually over a front porch. All you see from the front of the house Is what is underneath the porch roof and a small addition to the side as well as dormers on the top of the roof second level.
I feel like our home is all roof even though from the street it is slightly elevated. I am concerned about over dominating with a very dark roof color choice But I like the contrast of the dark roof and a light siding. With the dormers on the second level of the roof and the angle of the house showing some of the siding connected to the roof which will be Maibec Cape Cod gray cedar shingles very light color in contrast to the roof I feel it could be the saving grace of choosing a very dark roof color?? Thoughts please. I have attached a few photos as we are a work in progress I actually have four sample roof colors attached to the right side of the roof although a little tough to see on this rainy day everything looks darker. There is a sample of moire black Standing up against the window and a sample of pewterwood next to it attached to the roof top left side. The old roof was once black I believe, it’s now a faded gray. I’ve been trying to choose a roof also that does not have a lot of variation it seems that’s what roofing companies are doing right now but it drives me crazy it’s so busy.
Grateful for any help at all for those of you who have been trying to pick a roof color I know you feel my pain it’s not so easy especially for something that covers a good portion of your home and you’ll be looking at every single day.

Comments (3)A larger window to the smaller bifolding doors would mean you get more kitech units, therefore more storage. So it would be beneficial to have a large window rather than bi folding doors on the smaller side. Saying that, Bi-folding doors do look great and they make the place feel more spcious. So the other option you have is to support the upper part of the wall with a RCJ (Steel) and have the bi-folding doors all the way across which would look great. Comments (2)@lisamarie1000 it looks like you've got quite a blank canvas to work with there but as well as giving lots of opportunities it can also be quite daunting if you don't know where to start. As a starting point I would look at where the sun falls in the garden as this can be important for growing vegetables and the greenhouse which need to be in as much sun as possible. Draw a plan to scale of the garden and use cut out shapes to represent the different areas (growing area, play area, sitting area etc.). You can place these on the plan and move them around until you get a layout that you are happy with. The size of the shapes needs to be big enough to represent what their use is. You can also base this on the dimensions of the house such as location of windows and doors. Try to avoid pushing everything to the edges as this can just draw attention to the boundaries and make the space feel small. Think about how you would move through the garden to get to the different areas. If you are going to have a path through, it will be more interesting if this isn't just a straight line down the middle. By making the route through have changes in direction you can add focal points (such as the apple tree) and make the garden seem bigger. If space is tight consider growing vegetables mixed in with ornamental plants so that the garden doesn't look like an allotment. Finally think about using screening with tall plants or trellis at various points so that you don't see the whole garden at once. This kitchen design looks ok - but if you are opening up the windows into a bar then echo that with an also slightly unconventional idea perhaps - using a BORA induction hob - which can be fitted ( unusually - but the manufacturers say this is ok) in place if the sink under the window ... the hob itself has a built in extract system - so no extractor needed - and allows you to keep a flatter surface there and entertain your guests by cooking for them while they perch outside ! By moving the sink to where the hob area was allows you to take the DW out of the corner to the end of the run so it's easier to load and unload without being in the way. PRO6 years agoI prefer a more solid gray. The variable roofs are not as attractive IMO. Take a look at GAF Timberline Charcoal. There is some shadowing but a more consistent color.

So pewterwood which I was heavily leaning towards today is almost casting a violet hue to it. The sun is out and that hue is scaring me, yikes! I feel like I really don’t have any choice but to go with the darker roof Moire Black. At first I thought I was seeing a little brown as in pewter “wood” but now I am seeing that very slight violet, not sure where that came from all of a sudden been looking at the samples for quite a few days. The color Pewter which may have worked is not offered in the North East.
Does anyone feel that I can do the Moire Black on this roof line. Maybe all the dormers help it from being too dominating?? Don’t know if the violet will be noticeable in a photo but I’ve attached it anyway. It’s the top left sample.
Just when I thought I had made a decision, so frustrating.
