I can see why you are not happy. I'd expect the overhang to be same on the island as the run of base units

Perhaps it’s a misunderstanding of terminology. You say posts but I’d say wide base end panels (if we’re talking about the same item). IMO you also have an overhang as the stools are underneath it. Did you mean you wanted an overhang past the base end panels?

I can‘t see clearly the 25mm overhang what you’re referring to.

Hello-so yes, maybe I’ve got to terminology wrong. I was told I would have a standard 25mm overhang on the units. So I expected the overhang would be the same on the island and base units. I’ll see if I can upload some more pics. Thanks for your comments!

I think this is a case of different assumptions. You have a recessed panel in the end of the island between the posts, they are treating this like the wall cabinets, there is an overhang beyond the recessed panel. But you wanted the posts treated like the wall cabinets so that there was an overhang beyond the posts.

I don’t think anyone is right or wrong here. Ideally it would have been discussed or drawings sent at the time of ordering but I can see how it might not have got that specific. What discussion/drawings were there about overhang at the time of ordering?

Hmm having said that, I’ve done a bit of image googling and it definitely seems more usual to have overhang beyond the posts.

Personally I like it. It makes the island look really neat. But I get that it’s about the fact that it’s different to the other side and I understand why that would bother you. I bet no one else coming into your kitchen will notice though.

I think it looks lovely. I had a look on Pinterest for islands and some had overhangs and some didn’t. Here’s one I found without overhang which I think looks very smart, like yours.

Thanks all. When the templater came he confirmed there would be a 25mm overhang, so I assumed it would be over the posts too. They didn’t give me any drawings to ‘sign off’. I’ve had such a nightmare with my kitchen...the company I bought the units from we’re awful-wrong at every turn and everything messed up-really stressful and took a year to sort (no kitchen and 3 kids😱). I just wanted this done and thought it was really simple job...feeling very naive...and disappointed.

It looks fabulous and the colours are spot on, you should congratulate yourself on getting so much right.

I think not looks really lovely I wouldn’t worry about the tiny detail just enjoy it you waited so long.

To my eye the island does not look wrong, it looks nice and I quite like the pillars and neat cut. However there are quite a lot of marks on the panels which looks like silicone/chalk and it really needs to be cleaned up. The join between unit and worktop in one photo also doesn’t look neat.

Thanks Darren for your comments-yes, there are a lot of marks. I have been thinking of the look (it wasn’t want I expected) the marks have slipped through and I haven’t cleaned them up. The joints aren’t neat-there’s one which is awful and worse than the photo above and the company are coming back to fix (see photo). Also, there is a chip on the upstand and a small one on the island. Am bit fed up....so much money too!

Hopefully these will be fixed!!
