Thank you Colorhappy, I was secretly hoping you would comment as you clearly know all about colour, something I definitely struggle with a little. I think your suggestion of a stone colour for the render and a green blue for the doors would look lovely, and I love the idea of it relating to the greenery in the garden. Do you have any suggestions for a stone colour? I have looked at F&B for the green/blue, they have a paint actually named green/blue, but I am not sure if this is too much of a literal interpretation of your advice :-) I also like the oval room blue too, do you think this could work? I love Stiffkey blue, but not sure if this is too rich/deep a colour and would end up looking dark? The front of the house faces north but still gets lots of great light, the house is elevated somewhat so it is never in shadow if that makes any difference to our choice of colour?

Thanks so much for responding, I love greeny/grey colours but our next door neighbour has their front door that colour so didn’t want to appear to be copying. Grey might be nice but do you think it will go with the existing creamy colour of the render or will it look a bit odd? We are due to repaint it anyway, so could change the colour of the render? Hi Nicola, when thinking about the outside of your house it's always important to consider the style of your home (when is was built) and what others on your street have. There are some rules on what the local council will permit too, so best to check with them first. Whilst it's nice for everyones home to have a unique personality, i believe it looks best when colours and design are in keeping with the original character of the house and road. 1950's homes are typically mid century, so think simplicity and clean lines. White wood siding in white can be a nice way to bring character to the houses facade. Plain, small format roof tiles in clay or slate are ideal materials for this era. I think your front door is where you get to have the most fun. Perhaps consider a colour. 1950's colours could be quite playful. I'd love to work with you on your inteior when the time comes. I’m not familiar with all the different colours by all the different supplier so had to Google it. Invisible Green only comes up as supplied by Little Greene not Craig and Rose by Homebase. Is that the one? If so on my screen it look almost black. l would opt for something bright as nothing particularly stands out on the front of the house. l realise you have to compliment the light green on the house but would opt for something in a green shade to blend but not that colour. Brass hardware would look nice against a bold colour.
