I took the inspiration from what you already have, but I just "see" what works with what is already in the picture or I just decide if there are no images or guidelines. I make very quick decisions but they are very considered if that makes any sense at all! .. .. The chest is an antique piece from Shimu and is £645 I think .. but shopping around of course you could find cheaper.. (I have discussed trade with them before) The lighting is Noguchi which I am sure you know of course, seeing as you have the table. I happen to love these and Ikea did a similar one years ago quite large with 3 legs and a bamboo circular top, but they have not had anything that good since.. .... and the chair is Eames but not one that is possibly really well known.. I loved the shelving piece antique and thought it was fantastic for behind the dining table.. With very little on it.. So it is really a piece of art.. With maybe the little lamp on it.. .. The butterfly stool (like putting your hands together at the wrists.. is Sori Yanagi.. Do ask if you need any other advice... : ))

Dear Wombatchild The two double ovens are on that back wall. The distance from them to the end of the island is 2.6 mtrs. The bank of units is mirror imaged from the centre of the ovens and that means there are two slim pull out larder cupboards on that wall. That 2.6m means that they can be pulled out and it is still no problem for traffic to be flowing past. My hob is on the island itself and the extractor comes up through the granite when in use. That far end of the island is great for taking things out of the oven and checking on food ...... turning potatoes over etc... To the left of that bank of units is a door to my boot room so I need walk way space there. This thread is quite old now and I may be repeating something I typed earlier but I love my kitchen ( think it is about six years since I had it out in) ..... The only things I would have done differently would have been not to have stainless steel sinks as they are a devil to keep looking nice! And I would like more contemporary pendant lights over the island instead of those chrome chandeliers - can change them but still working on husband on that point!!!! X

I would be a bit concerned about the depth of it from front to back as the room is only 14'6 deep and even less where the fireplace is. Why don't you compare this to other sofas you like. In terms of how it looks, Chesterfields are timeless and will look good with other timeless items. Not for someone who likes everything to 'match' though. I would try this layout: 2-seater with its back to the window, 3-seater at a right angle with it's back to the wall with the double doors (but both free from the walls) and a smaller scale chair to the right of the fireplace, angled towards the sofas. The TV on a long, low media unit or cabinet on the wall to the left of the door. I would look for an arm chair like this.
