I agree the shape and placing of the wardrobes is rather odd. I would remove them. I can see an arch behind the wardrobe on the right? If budget allows fitted wardrobes on the opposite would look better and keep the bed where it is. I have fitted wardrobes and I love them. They give a very sleek and tidy finish.

Hi Laura, You want at least 700mm between the end of the bed and wardrobes, this allows you to walk freely through the space but 900mm is more ideal. I agree with Sonia though, keeping the bed against the chimney breast and having built in wardrobes on the opposite wall seems the most sensible option. Plus you can then make a real feature out of the alcoves. Maybe consider adding some dramatic lighting to the alcoves (floor lamps, pendant lighting or wall lights) or shelving works well too as you suggest.

Thanks for your recommendations! If I kept the bed as is, there would only be 730mm space to the opposite wall so I don't think wardrobes would fit! Perhaps the bed on the right hand wall (facing the window), and the wardrobe on the wall by the window?

Roughly how much are fitted wardrobes? I'm not sure my budget will stretch!

My wardrobes from Sharpes were £3400 for 6 doors, rails, shelving and a shoe pull out draw (which is rubbish so don’t get one of those!), but a carpenter will probably charge less.
