Any suggestions as to dining chair colour & style would also be a great help please? Dining table pictured is being replaced ideally with another glass top table.. debating to stick with 90cm diameter (seats 2) or larger 110cm diameter to comfortably seat 4 which is what i require.. my fear is the room being swamped with too much furniture

Lovely room and that view! Do you want to carry on with the neutral palate, which I rather like, or do you want to add some colour with art and cushions? The rug is a little small, so I think a rug large enough so the seating front legs sit on it would look more cohesive. I do like your black framed art which will look great on that wall. I’m not sure what you would achieve by swapping the tv wall? Here’s some ideas, neutral and with a bit more colour. I’ve included some images of Persian rugs which look fab with modern decor.

I also agree with the suggestion of a small & light dining table & chair set.. do you think light/pale coloured chairs (pink, blue, sage) or any other coloured dining chairs would work well with existing furniture?
Thanks for tips on rug size also.. would ideally prefer a neutral rug as im quite indecisive & prefer the safety net of changing smaller/less expensive items when i get the urge for a change

Yes I do think the pastel shaded chairs would look great and then you could carry it through with the cushions, and even with the art. Here I’ve picked the dusty pink, but any soft shade would work well.

Are both radiators being replaced and in the same place?

You may not like this room (and I confess I posted similar panelling the other day, I think I’m obsessed as I can’t have it 😂) but...if you were to move the tv to the other side and put the sofa where the tv is, you could part panel the left hand side. I think some wood would look gorgeous. A rug looks quite tricky, if it goes under the sofa/chair feet it looks as if it would encroach on the dining table and look a bit odd? I was wondering if you’d consider layering rugs as they have here?

maybe rattan chairs (as they don’t visually fill the room would work) or even transparent ones?

would you consider painting the tv wall a darker tone to hide the tv or do you want to stay with white walls? If it fits a lamp would look good on the tv unit

I wonder whether your layout problem may be because there is something of an imbalance between your dining furniture and your relaxing furniture. Lovely as they are, do you need both armchairs? If you just had the sofa and 1 armchair I think you would have space for a somewhat larger table (of the type you are considering) without the room looking crowded.I think others suggestions of some pastel shades perhaps combined with a trailing plant (to balance the lovely tall one in the corner) would also work well.

I love that you have mentioned two things i’ve also considered - rattan or transparent chairs.. i saw a rattan style metal chair on Made.com but was unsure if I was way off in terms of cohesion with existing furniture.. worth a try it sounds - thank you!
Rug sizing is definitely an issue with regards to odd proximity to the dining zone.. never considered layering rugs but looks like it’s worth a try also.. a large neutral with darker complimentary shade on top maybe?
The radiators will both ideally be replaced in the same places with vertical ones. If vertical installation is an issue (new build) my plan b would be to think of radiator cover/concealment ideas?.. if im unable to change radiators the existing one next to floating tv shelf im thinking the radiator will need to be smaller in length to increase space between the two? Would pictures above radiator in dining zone look too crowded next to tv?

Im open to painting TV wall.. do not have the first clue of what colour. The floor tiles are a cool grey.. any suggestions in the right direction greatly appreciated! ☺️

Thanks very much Janet, you hit the nail on the head as ive been considering selling one of the arm chairs for a few weeks. I feel i’d have more layout options with one armchair due to the size of them.

Pic below shows another layout combo. The 3 seater was placed opposite the TV wall leaving windows unobstructed. I have now sold the black dining chairs pictured as the room was far too furniture heavy. Currently searching for a new table & chairs.. planning to scour online for glass table with black legs & rattan style chairs.

Will have a look online at a few more pastel shade options & throw a few in here for thoughts tomorrow. Much appreciated

I’ve only ever had the table in the above pictured area only because i tend to see dining tables placed closest to the kitchen in open plan images so always assumed it must be the “right” thing to do 😂😅. I think the table would be lovely by the window now you mention it.. it could go in front of radiator that is currently next to 2 armchairs.. the 3 seater could then go in place of armchairs (definitely considering selling one of the armchairs)... will have a shuffle round tomorrow & take a few snaps! Hi Jo, I think rattan light shades would look nice, especially if you decide on rattan chairs, but they don’t have to match. They are very popular at the moment so easy to source.

was it a retro chair like this? If so, they don’t seem to sell it anymore but think it would work well. I love the camel cushion you had, if you’re not big on colour I’d just add lots of different textures and tones. I think adding some earthy tones with the black and white art would work really well. I like the lights Sonia posted but also the jute rugs. I came across another layered rug image from Mad About The House this morning. She recommends layering jute with wool for more texture which could work well

I think that's more traditional than for convenience Jo but some of use our dining tables/spaces very differently these days and I spend far more time working and doing paperwork at mine than actually dining. And unfortunately without the view. I love the fact that you like the natural lampshades to warm things up. If you get a chance, have a look at xo macenna either on you tube, Instagram or she now has a, new blog
Once you get past the 'hey guys!' you might get some inspiration from her styling and diys. It's very warm neutrals and the artwork Minnie has recommended is very much her style.

That chair I posted was Rockett St George but Made did similar. I think the middle chair is probably too big for the space? The others work but I don’t know if I’d go for a natural colour? I really like the tv inspiration but not sure how much space you have to do that? Could you take a photo straight on?

Those mock ups are so helpful Minnie, thank you. Agreed re the natural coloured chairs. Ive had a quick shuffle round & removed one if the armchairs to the hallway to have a clearer idea of space & options.

Thanks for your thoughts Minnie. It’s a tricky one for me.. i prefer one arm chair in the room which i guess works better with most recent layouts pictured above. Equally, i like the 3 seater by the window (feels much more cosy when seated & conversing) but thinking one armchair opposite TV would look a little odd.

Rectangular table by the balcony could work with 3 seater opposite TV, however would mean putting not armchair to the right of tv by the kitchen which im not sold on 😩.

Would love more opinions on 1 armchair or two please?

Also does anyone think shelving on any of the walls for pics, ornaments would work?

It might be worth trying one armchair opposite the tv, I think a rug makes all the difference if it looks a bit odd when you try it!

I’ve just used anything and it cleared half the lampshade (!) but if you want something like your inspiration pic I would have the tv off centre and lower it so it’s closer to the unit.

Shelf/shelving on the other wall could also work

Love that placement Minnie, thank you! Funnily enough I had been contemplating moving the TV further left of the wall (using ceiling demarcation as a guide) in the hope that i may create a more defined ( & increased space) for the dining zone on the right.

One armchair doesn’t look as odd as previously thought, would imagine it looker much better with a rug as suggested.

I agree if the table was against the wall I’d probably go rectangular. just thinking you maybe able to find a bench and table and then push it back when not in use? You could also zone the dining with art and maybe a plug in light over the table? What’s the distance from the door to radiator?
