Help with long narrow living room
Comments (29)Yep her stuff is out of mine, did I tell you that before? She was suppose to move into the house and it fell through the day before so all her things bar sofa and bed had to be stored in mine( she got the keys 6days later though). All the upstairs is getting painted just now so they have stored everything in this long living room just now. I've got a HNC in interior architecture but I liked the technical side more and was also worrying of jobs( doesn't seam to be a lot of jobs in Glasgow for interior design) so I swapped to doing architectural technology, this is my 2nd year doing this course so HND, see how this year goes and either take a job at technician or go into 3rd year at uni for same course. I can't draw at all, all done con computer with cad/ sketch up/ and now Revit but I'm hopeless at that just now,, I can trace though lol...See MoreSkirting board query (quarter-round in 1 room but not others)
Comments (3)Personally I think it looks better if the skirting is removed and flooring put underneath. When replacing the skirting cut down to allow for the height of the new floor under the pipes and machine the round on to the cut edge. Looks a professional finish and the fact that someone would take the time to do it this way is always going to score points on selling. Hope this helps....See MoreDecorating a long narrow living dining room
Comments (10)As Jen said painting the short end walls in a warm or dark colour helps to correct the room proportions as it brings the walls in. If you're not keen on that I'd just keep the same colour on all 4. The way you've arranged art is good in separate groups as it's breaking up the length of the walls. Have you considered adding a large mirror/s on the long walls? Normally bringing some of the furniture away from the walls helps so you have something in the midddle of the room, is that a footstool or is it attached to the sofa?! I would also add floor and table lamps (regardless of room dimensions) as it will make the room feel bigger at night if some of those corners are lit. You could also add a rug, horizontal stripes are good but something like a diamond geometric would work too...See MoreGeneral query F&B paint
Comments (5)Hi Helen, it's all about the undertones. All colours have a 'bias' towards one colour, for example Cornforth White has a blue (cool bias), Bone has a green bias, Joa's white has a red (warm) bias etc. As long as you choose colours that have the same bias you should be ok. The other important factor is the aspect of the room. If a room is gloomy, you need to be really careful about what colour neutral you choose, avoiding ones with a blue bias as they will feel cold....See MoreSonia
