We have a straco pergola and wish to convert this into a sunroom with windows, cement sheets for walls etc, using the existing structure. We have been told that we cannot use plasterboard for the ceiling as it's too heavy. Any suggestions for a light false ceiling??

It may not be as expensive as you think and I (the completely non-pro!) think you'll need some wall lights which will obviously involve chasing cables in the walls so would want to get it done properly first time. My non-expert thoughts anyway! Bed 1, it looks as if this is the only place you can have the bed so I would swap this for a flush or semi flush ceiling light. Have either tall bedside lamps So you can see to read or have lights fitted over the bed. If you're doing make up etc in here then you'll need lights fitted over a mirror etc to see. Bed 2 looks as if it can take a pendant but I would hang it higher, same for bedside tables. In the lounge I'd go for a mix of wall lights (you can also get both up and down lighters), floor lights and table lamps. I would be careful about putting in ceiling lights over furniture layouts unless you position a light centrally in the room otherwise they can look odd if you change the layout and obviously you may have drilled through beams. A pendant over the table in the kitchen will make the ceilings appear lower but I went with this in my basement as they was no getting away with the ceilings being low anyway. I'd add wall, floor and a table light around the seating area. I'd add a mix of up and down spots around the kitchen cupboards. Where I do think you'll need light is over the range. I've got them over my aga and wouldn't be able to see properly to cook without them. Maybe look into lights with heat resistant cables etc as there's not much height there.

You could try Jim Lawrence, they do lots of really beautiful lighting and have so many finishes to choose from so even if the pendant and wall lights aren't in exactly the same 'range' you can make sure the colour or finish matches so they tie in.
