It’s always good to shop around - so maybe email a few local independent and a few nation coverage places too ! If you have one plan that they could each price from - that will enable you to compare like for like .

Thank you, I have done that. Some were way higher priced, others were similar ballpark. But these are my preferred 2. They seem very similar on carcasses and doors (both mdf uv laquered). Just wondered about people’s experiences with them

I had a Howdens kitchen fitted in my last house and was very pleased with it for the price. When we moved to our current house I chose Howdens again, partly because our builders had a good deal with them, but also I looked at other suppliers in the same price range and preferred the Howdens range.
I think a lot depends on your fitter, we were very that both times our builders were very experienced and their finish was superb. With regard to Howdens planning service, both times they were very flexible and made changes to the plans so I could see alternatives. I would say that you have to know what you want, or don’t want, to get the best from the planning service. Hope this helps!

Hi RF, While they will no doubt be more expensive, I would without doubt go with Schuller or an equivalent German product, for a variety of reasons:

1. The overall quality of carcasses will be better, even though the side pieces will most likely be 15mm rather that 18mm;
2. The quality of manufacturing process and overall quality control from the German manufacturers is infinitely better
3. While I could not tell without looking at the doors side by side, chances are the level of gloss from the German brands and possibly the thickness of doors will both be higher
4. When it comes to handleless, the German producers are without doubt the experts. While I am not quite so familiar with the fine detail of Schuller's processes, my own German manufacturer individually checks each & every design right down to how rails join, whether there are end caps, whether the carcass is un-milled, fully milled or half milled (all important details for the best quality installation!) and will flag any potential issues, clashes or incompatibility with appliances etc. Designing & installing handleless kitchens is a more involved process and with very few exceptions, I have yet to see the designers or installers from Howdens & "the sheds" come anywhere close to Germanic quality.

Finally, though, I would urge you to have a look at the unique rail system offered by Omega Kitchens through their Mackintosh brand. They use a different, flat rail system which has been very well received by our customers, particularly with their high gloss lacquered "Oblique" door - an extra thick, extremely glossy lacquered door sourced in Italy yet still at an amazingly low price group. They have one of the best carcasses in the business, excellent back up support and very good guarantees on carcasses, doors & hinges/fixings. You also get a better range of carcass colour/woodgrain options, extra depth wall units etc.

In fact, after using them (and another UK supplier) increasingly for those kitchens we would have historically put to the Germans, we find there is little they can't do at least as well as, if not better! And remedials come in but a few days - compared to weeks, if sourcing from Germany.

Whoever you choose, I would certainly ensure you hire a good quality fitter with a decent reputation for fitting handleless - and check out their previous work!

Caldicot- thanks for the info. The Carcass is 19mm mfc with 8mm mdf backboard and 19mm mdf uv lacquered gloss doors. I also prefer the fact that you can have full larder doors with the German supplier rather than 2 part larder doors. Looks so much nicer
