Kitchen extractor with ducting under floor - help!

We are planning on having an Elica Switch Duct Out version in our new kitchen running from an island hob to outside.
The ducting will be install under the screed and concrete so will never be able to be fixed or cleaned without taking entire floor up... this makes me soooo nervous!!!
Has anyone got this set up and can tell me that it's a fair standard way of ducting an extractor?!?!

Ah, the joys of fitting extractors around beams etc! As suggested, I'd consider looking at alternative extractors (BEST/Elica/Luxair) to see if any might work better with your layout. Alternatively, dropping the ceiling above the entirety of the island could be made into an attractive feature. flat ducting may also help, but be aware there may be a reduction in efficiency of the unit. Hi Tamp, Yes, I would like to put shelves from window to microwave, like the shelves in this photo. I think this will create a through-line from window to microwave? But maybe more cupboards would be better? Just thought it would be quite heavy and dark with more cupboards...

Well our builder/joiner used to be a kitchen fitter so he was going to be fitting it but he’s just gone awol and run off somewhere (left all his tools and taken out money and not paid half of his contractors!!) So we have had to take over the project mid way :0( He hasn’t planned the extractor in otherwise he would have designed and made the roof section the pipes need to go into, differently. So as we don’t have anyone yet who can take over the whole thing - we are trying to work out the niggles as best we can and make life easy for ourselves. The plasterers are hopjng to board in 1-2 weeks so I’m thinking the easiest thing to do is to have exposed pipes which will work with our industrial theme I guess. That way it won’t effect the ceiling as it will just under it.

Hello Tani H-S, I read your previous post a few weeks back and completely understand your dilemna as I have a similar issue, I can't duct out either due to double joists in the way if I wanted to take it into the ceiling and if I don't have it in the ceiling I would have to have a huge boxing in and over hang over my kitchen wall units and huge boxing in under the steel beam which would completely ruin the whole look of the extension and kitchen. I am planning to keep my extractor as re-circulating ( use carbon filter to take out the grease and smells ) and then have a separate extractor fan to pass building regs. I might go for the Airlfow ICON 60, unfortunately it's not industrial looking but looks quite neat in the photos. If you can put the extractor fan as close as possible to the hood that would be better I think but to be honest those extractor fans don't really do that much unless it's part of the ducting. My kitchen is already up and running so I can only advise where I get lots of steam, obviously the hob, then around the oven area ( especially if you have a steam oven ) and also hot water tap. If it gets too steamy, I just resort to opening the velux or sliding doors for a bit which is probably more effective than the little extractor fan.

Well we went for it and ducted it out under the floor. We've only been back in our house a few weeks but so far so good. It had really good suction and isn't too noisy! I'm glad we took the plunge. I'd far rather the smells go outside than recirculating.

Thanks for getting back to me. Now being too decide which hob. I'm going round in circles! Thinking the Elica Switch.... But there's a lot of choice!
