Wardrobe interiors

I have a basic wardrobe fitted, with shelf and hanging rail and top shelf only. This is a drawing of suggested fittings but i dont like it particularly. do you think i can fit some interiors myself or better not even tey (example ikea or other) so as yo make ise of whats already there and save on that or not bother ?

The left two parts are one space and the third is separate. Each third has double doors. depth is 51 cm. apologies for autocorrect previously !

Ikea use a lot of non-standard sizes so you might find that their wardrobe interiors dont fit your existing units (i believe ikea work to a 25, 50, 75, 100 scale). I believe the layout youve chosen gives good use of the available space (I hang everything so would replace the centre shelves with another rail). What is it that you dont like about it?

Brian, I strongly suspect any solution similar to those in the photos you have supplied will be extremely expensive. As you have mentioned, you have already had one company provide a price which was at a price you envisaged. Unfortunately, a designer solution such as this is rarely scalable in terms of size, the fact that you are mobilising a designer, fitter etc. will carry a substantial price from the outset. The previous suggestions offered by professionals on this site suggested by B&Q and Ikea are clearly at a different price point, but nonetheless a solution to the dilemma you presented.

Should be easy enough to do if using the same paint as the wall. As mentioned before the inside should be clear coated or waxed and rubbed. For the outside just make sure that you mask all the edges around the openings properly. I would wax them too (the adjacent sides all around) once done with the inside just in case paint does leak in, then it won't be hard to wipe off. Be careful not to get wax on the outer side though.

I would suggest it isn’t enough for 2 people. Ideally each person should have their own wardrobe, but I know that’s easier said than done. Have you had a declutter of the clothes? If you haven’t worn something for a year, I suggest you give it to charity or try to sell it. My wardrobe was so chockablock that I pulled everything out and sorted it into keep, charity shop or sell. Now I can actually see all my clothes and it is easier to manage. We all keep stuff for far too long, and sometimes it is time to let it go. Looking again, you could add another rail below the one you have, so you’ve twice the capacity, but it needs to be short things like tops at the top and trousers/skirts at the bottom. I would sort all the stuff at the bottom and decide if it is needed.

We are installing Boaxel in the dressing room at the moment. It's excellent and a lot more reasonable than Elfa. Do you need hanging space too? Ikea has a drawing tool that you can use to plan all your storage to scale. It will also provide a shopping list with a total amount.

It looks really good. The left can be for tops and trousers/skirts, the middle can be for jumpers and t shirts folded' and the right hand one is perfect for dresses.

Thank you all very much. Maybe I should rethink it. i was thinking of bottom shelves on the left in place of the second rail. Coats is a problem but maybe i should store them elsewhere. was thinking if i could fit bags by making half of the right one full length shelves..
