@Victoria, Well, now that you've asked... We got planning permission for the project back in November but the first builder we asked for a quote suggested that we were wasting a lot of potential by not putting another room up there (at the top/back of the first picture). So, I revised the drawing by adding another bedroom to the rear and putting another bathroom/en-suite where the void and resubmitting for planning. After some time, the structural engineer came up with drawings and calculations for the project and the builder's quote came in @ £125k. With VAT on top of that, we just can't justify spending that much and was expecting it to be less. So, the whole project is on hold while we consider our options... Thanks for your interest.

I think that the problem is that a mezzanine is actually more difficult than a full loft, as it requires cutting through a lot of the structural members of the roof, and then inserting new structure to cope. Loft conversion specialists will not normally have the experience or imagination to deal with this. You really need an architect who understands what you want to create, and can solve the structural problems for you, then you can go to a builder with a set of detailed drawings. I'm too far away to help, but you could look on www.architecture.com for an architect local to you, or try searching the web more generally.

Eaves storage a plenty! Imagine hatches next to the nightstands and in the bathroom. I removed the closed off dressing area as it only chops up the grand loft feeling. Going clockwise starting top left: Window seat with storage underneath, tall wardrobe, little desk, tall wardrobe (for towels and such). Bathroom door moved over a bit, could be pocket, but a regular would be fine as well. Vanity about a meter wide, toilet, shower, eaves storage, freestanding bath. Then more tall wardrobes (either with or without the corner bit), slightly deeper wall between stairs and bed, not much else.

Thanks Katie, this looks great! The view is lovely I can definately see why you have done it this way. I love the window too. Do you mind If I ask what the dimensions of the room are for reference? My only concern would be if we could get enough full height storage on the eaves wall behind the bed, I don't think our room will be as big as this. The reason we planning to go for lots of tall storage is so that we can store away all our clothes and any other bits away as we don't have much storage throughout the rest of the house. So storage is a big thing on this build. But orientating the bed in that way make loads of sense. Ideally I would be able to just let them build the main shell and then get up there and position a bed in various places. But I guess so much has to be determined before that stage so the wall lights, plug points etc... are all in the correct place. I think I might draw some options up in CAD and then start a new thread and see which people prefer and what they would do themselves. Thanks for your comments and pictures :)
