With this being a guest room, I'd go for something light and simple on the walls but bring some colour and texture through with accessories. You seem to have alot of storage in the space, i'd de-clutter these and throw out some of the wardrobe's that you have. Think about having a storage bed so you can hide some of these away. In your alcove, we'd recommend using this as a dressing area. You could have a mirror on the wall and have a small desk/built in shelf put in. again keep this lightly coloured and the mirror will help reflect light from the windows and lighting you may have. Realised I never updated this thread! After a great deal of indecision I was inspired by an instagram post I saw where someone had used a white aluminium curtain track which you could bend to fit to the bay. It's fairly invisible against the white window frames and has a small, shallow profile so it fit neatly into the gap available. I then used the same ikea ingert curtains as elsewhere in the house along with ikea black out liners (which FYI are more 'light reduction' than true 'blackout' :S). Only downside is that when the curtains are fully open they block a little bit of the windows to the sides but honestly I'm just happy to have something up now! It definitely makes the bedroom feel more finished and cosy too :).

It would help to have a few more details. Who would be living here, budget etc. If it is for 2 professional sharers, I wonder if you could squeeze an ensuite into each reception room to make 2 good size bedrooms. I'd then open up the kitchen and hall (removing the bathroom, and make a small kitchen living area. If it is for you, and you need a master plus occasional or child's bedroom I would install kitchen units onto the back wall of the reception room, make the existing kitchen a bedroom and add a second bathroom/utility/storage room (depending on priorities) in the hall way gap as you planned. All plumbing, permissions. dependent etc...

After many weeks of experimenting with furniture positions I have finally reached a conclusion which I'm happy with. I am selling the Ikea black desk which was too small and impractical for the room and replaced it with my old curved desk which now fits snugly in the South East corner of my room. I have also put the chest to good use which is now under the bed and will be replaced by 'weathered scaffold board' shelves on the South West wall which previously held my guitars. The guitars will be placed on the North East wall above my chest of drawers which are stacked and positioned next to the bed. I am still yet to decide however which wall should contain all of the photos and canvas'... Perhaps above the headboard. The speakers will be positioned accordingly once some shelves fill the South East corner wall above the desk and the 3 shelves have been positioned. The LP player along with the vinyls will be on the bottom shelf which is still in the process of design. Once this is complete.. I may have time to put hooks above Bob Marley's head for the cables.... If you believe I'm going the wrong direction with this please give me a shout. Pictures will be posted upon completion.
