The new door will be this style

@hedgehog99 haha! In truth, it’s a wooden door which is very draughty, and it’s not obvious from the photo, but it’s slightly bow fronted in the top half, and reminds me of a Victorian sweet shop, so it’s got to go. In real life, the colour also feels really drab.

Fair enough and I see what you mean about the sweet shop! I just wonder whether that particular style of door will complement the house though. The house and windows have a heritage look and the door is ultramodern but not in a way which works in my opinion. I think something more timeless would work better. Presumably you will still have the glass side pane (where the dog is looking through), so you don’t need light to come through the door? I’d be going for a solid timber door or if you prefer a composite, something like the style of door which is often called Norfolk (sorry I have not yet figured out how to attach pics to a post!).

Yes but maybe solid without the little windows? Depends whether you feel you need the light in the hallway, in addition to what you’ll have from the side pane.

@hedgehog99 you’re absolutely right about the look, i just think I’d rather have some window in the door, albeit smaller than we’d originally thought. Maybe I need to revisit my thoughts on door colour too, and plump for something softer than the bright green I’d first envisaged, which was more like the colour of the box hedging by the front door! What a pretty house. The flint wall hinted at Norfolk! I really like your windows, but I get that you may want a change or to lighten it up a bit. I think you are right, a soft blue or green would look nice. There’s a colour I keep recommending on here by Little Greene called Celestial Blue which is a very pale blue/green and very pretty. Of course there are many lovely green or blue shades.

@Sonia yes, I like celestial blue; I’d seen it on a couple of threads recently. The door we’re going for will come in any RAL colour, and using a conversion tool I’ve found, the closest RAL is 7038, which looks very like the current colour 🤣🤣 I may need something a little more blue or green on the RAL chart I have, but I think we’re now on the right lines. Thanks 😀

I think a celestial blue is lovely, and maybe something a little darker in shade could really pop against the brickwork in your house :)

In the interests of completeness (and I always like to see results), this is the new door …

It already feels more welcoming and in keeping with the style of the house than the old door. (The wreath is only stuck to the window until I find a stick on hook that will work on the wood grain texture of the door)

I used a large command hook (the strongest one) to stick my wreath onto my wood grain textured solidoor- It hasn’t budged!
