Thank you Minnie for these observations. - For the peninsula: we currently have a 2400 run of cupboard (on one side 4 x 60, other 2 x 900 + 600) and 300 for the overhang - hence a total of 2700. I see your point more starkly now: i calculate I would have 1200 between the island and the wall - which may kill the sense of ease for moving around. May be best to switch the seats as you have it on your picture and loose a bit of storage. - Yes the render has a splashback, but I will go for a lower upstand with slim wall lights as you suggest. - I am stuck with the fridge so trying to get as much SS on the ovens is a good idea. - I agree that the small cupboard with shelves opened would have been nice, but I need this space to put things away. A thought was whether one day, this hinged door would be good in wood. Many thanks again. Isabelle

Matilda, here’s my thoughts. I think you should have the main bedroom for yourself with the wardrobe space and the en-suite. You’ll need that space to switch off and relax. Your 15 year old son can have bedroom two which I presume is smaller than the dining room? And the dining room can become a bedroom for your younger son and your daughter you say they get on well. I wouldn’t worry about the two younger children having ‘space to play’ in their room as you have a lovely big lounge you can use for family time. I would suggest you try this plan and if you find that it’s not working you can always have a rethink.

Hi all, I’d love your ideas! We’re updating a small basin area and plan to tile the wall behind the sink. However, my husband isn’t keen on tiling around the base/top of the basin itself. I’m wondering if a resin person could create a seamless fill-in for that area—has anyone tried this? We’ll be painting the tongue-and-groove panelling nearby. The hallway next door has sage and soft grey tones, so I’d love suggestions for a colour that complements those. My daughter mentioned limewash—beautiful, but is it robust enough for a space with lively grandsons and lots of handprints? The red tiled floor will stay for now. I currently throw a thin rug over it, but I’d love ideas for how to soften or lift the look without replacing it. A radiator will be added to one wall too. Any thoughts on how to tie everything together—materials, colours, layout—would be much appreciated! Thanks so much, SAH
