Bathrooms Storage Design Dilemma

Hate this bathroom layout

Moving in to my new property next week and dislike that there’s no storage space and nowhere decent to put a mirror. I don’t like how it looks at the moment and need ideas on how to make it more modern and contemporary, it just screams boring to me right now.

Move the basin to the adjacent wall. That will give you lots of space for storage and a large mirror.

I don’t think the tub will fit on the right side because it’ll be right in front of the bathroom door

We are still working on our new house, there is currently a bath with a glass half screen that is totally useless. The water bounces off whoever is showering past the screen and over the toilet, the floor, the ceiling, and it's only a half tiled wall so the wallpaper is peeling. I've considered the P or d shaped baths which give a larger section at one end in which to stand when using the shower and I've seen there are matching curved glass screens to go with them. Two points to consider. 1. If you are not planning on staying a shower could be a good selling point, the water saving of a shower versus a bath. Our last bath hardly saw a look in during 16 years and although it was a lovely deep double ended steel bath it gathered dust and the shower was definately the go-to choice. 2. I am now considering the usability of the bathroom for an elderly relative who has had a stroke, likes baths, but may not be able to get into, or out of one, with dignity intact. I'm thinking that a large walk in shower with additional wall jets could be a good option and the upscale could be a wow factor. Although you may not be in the same position you can never have enough forward planning.

Entire modern large apartment needs a refurb. I am looking into what can be retained, to keep spending down. For a small family/ guest bathroom, I will replace sanitary ware in the same position. I hate the wall and floor tiles. They certainly cannot both stay as they clash. The walls have an Imperial equivalent of a 20x20cm matt beige/ tan tile with white grouting. I dislike it but at least the colour and matt finish are quite neutral. The floor has an Indian green marble tile, which I am told is very expensive, but I loathe. Removing tiles is noisy and disruptive as well as expensive. Should I try a honed finish on the floor tiles (a bit less disruptive) and choose a paint and back painted glass option for the walls that would better match the green? Busy marble is not my natural style, but sometimes one achieves a surprising success by work around feature you wouldn't choose. If this option, suggestions for colours appreciated. Looking at the Little Green colour chart - or any other. Or should I live with the beige/ tan wall tiles and get rid of the floor? Or get rid of both? My taste is quite minimalist and calming, with touches of accents.

Hi Debbie. In my view bathrooms are best when the kit is on two walls only it can look disjointed when the bath, sink etc is dotted around each wall. So, for me, the simplest and cheapest might just be to turn the loo 90degrees and place it on the wall next to the basin? Alternatively could you fit both loo and a slightly shorter bath on the window wall? Then basin and shower on the right hand wall? Not sure it will all fit, but it might...

thanks both. will be getting our installer out soon to have a look but just looking for as many ideas and opinions in preparation for that. I came up with another option today as I came across this space saving bath. It really makes the most of all the bathroom space as it fits perfectly behind the door. However, it would restrict the door to opening only approx 65/70degrees. i’ve been looking online but can’t find clear info, does anyone know if that would be allowed?? or if we’d still have to change to outward opening with this option?

I think arc3d means the mirror image of the photo - move the basin to the wall opposite the bath.

Arc3d wasn’t suggesting that you move the tub. Just reverse the inspo pic - so tub on the left, toilet under the window and sink on the right hand wall. Looks like that should work. I think it’s a good suggestion.

Maybe re-hang the door so that it open against the bath (if the basin would be in the way).

Hello Rumi,

Your photo perfectly shows the arrangement – i reckon your Soil and Waste pipe is on the right hand side (as we view the photo) and all your waste from the bath and basin go to this concealed pipe plus the foul from your WC.

The position of the Soil and Waste pipe does shape the positioning of the all the fittings.

As far as the mirror/ storage goes...the change from a bath to a shower would free up valuable space?
