Hi we’ve recently moved in to an older property with some good space.. the trouble is we don’t know how best to use the downstairs as the current floor plan doesn’t quite work for us. Whose best to help us an interior designer or architect??
My view is that it depends on how you'd like to make the current floor plan work. If you are considering options including extensions to your property / knocking several walls to rearrange the floor plan / moving bathrooms and kitchens, then architects would be better equipped to deal with these things. If you'd like to change the use of spaces with new furnishings without involving the above-mentioned holistic changes to the house, then interior designers are more specialised in this direction though some architects are also into this territory.
If you are unsure of what you'd like to do, many architects offer a feasibility-study service. This investigates and proposes several design options based on your specific requirements and contexts.
