Kitchen paint refresh
Hi there. We're refreshing our kitchen paintwork. We really like the green walls (currently Colourtrend Schoolroom Green) so haven't strayed too far with Colourtrend Nettle Soup which is similar but a bit more zingy. We're going to paint the pine breakfast bar and cupboard frames Colourtrend Natterjack to contrast and the pantry door ivory, same as trim and window frames. Also considering subway tile for cooker wall rising to height of fridge to break up this high wall, possibly topped with shallow shelf running the full length. Floor tiles, countertops, trim and cupboard doors will stay as is. Feels like the safe option. Just wondering if we're missing a trick here and should consider a whole new colour palette? Thanks!!

Comments (16)I suggest finding a nice local carpenter to help with cabinets etc. They will be able to come up with imaginative ways of upgrading and using as much of your own things as possible. I had an ok but boring Magnet kitchen with laminate doors. I wanted new doors and after spending an entire morning in the local franchise of Dream Doors, they eventually refused to come out and look at my kitchen when I said that my budget was under £5k. I priced up new doors online and then found a local carpenter. When he came round, I explained what I wanted and that my real dream was to have an “in-frame” look. He laughed, told me to scrap my ideas of buying new doors and instead he made entire new fronts that look a million times better than anything I could get off the shelf. It was also a fraction of the price!! My kitchen isn’t perfect (i find it too dark. - but that’s another story and not to do with the carpenter!!) - however it’s high quality, completely bespoke and an absolute bargain! Comments (3)i think I would start with replacing the floor. Those wavy edged tiles are going to clash with a new sleek kitchen. You have a choice to do it all or just paint the doors, get a new range cooker, replace that massive extractor with something smaller and sleeker. I'm pretty sure the doors are solid wood not wood effect. The style is very ornate and quite cottagey and modern won't sit comfortably alongside it. I would rather get rid of all the tiling and buy a modern kitchen and appliances if thats what you truly want. I would also consider your motivation. Comments (10)Sorry no, that would mean knocking down walls and etc and will overcapitalise in the future. I like the floor plan as is. I would prefer to change the windows into a French door have a L shape kitchen and then can fit an island with a hob. I can also have tall units and i won't need to move the sink too far. Thanks Minnie. No plans for extractor at present - ceiling height is awkward - we usually ventilate well when cooking. I'd plan to keep the cupboard doors ivory to match trim. Just not 100% to go with green again but definitely want to knock out all the pine! Here's how the back wall might look with a sub tile and shelf... but not with that many pictures!

Wow, it looks stunning, no wonder you’re so delighted!! Have you decided what to do with tiling?!
Feel free to ignore me but as they won’t fit in my kitchen I feel the need to share! These baskets from Zara and some boards could look fab (although appreciate it may not be your thing)!

Thanks Minnie.. Oh, I like those boards! I was all set to do a large terrazzo tile (see mock up) but chickened out in the end. I might live with it a bit and see what the best option is in the new year. I will be on the look out in the sales for nice textiles and accessories Great to have the hard and messy bit out of the way though :)

Terrazo is lovely and love the colours, it is a difficult one as it’s so on trend. “Pink” zellige tiles could be an alternative with a plug in wall light (think this one may be too long but something along those lines)? I might just tile on the main run?
Agree though, leave it until the sales are on and it looks so lovely anyway!

Also considering an oversized cut out clock and looking at some kind of metal wall art installation too. Kinda frightened that tiles could make it look like an industrial kitchen. Or a public bathroom!
