Kitchen paint refresh
Hi there. We're refreshing our kitchen paintwork. We really like the green walls (currently Colourtrend Schoolroom Green) so haven't strayed too far with Colourtrend Nettle Soup which is similar but a bit more zingy. We're going to paint the pine breakfast bar and cupboard frames Colourtrend Natterjack to contrast and the pantry door ivory, same as trim and window frames. Also considering subway tile for cooker wall rising to height of fridge to break up this high wall, possibly topped with shallow shelf running the full length. Floor tiles, countertops, trim and cupboard doors will stay as is. Feels like the safe option. Just wondering if we're missing a trick here and should consider a whole new colour palette? Thanks!!

Comments (8)I'm wondering about blocking in the bannisters with T&G which is in keeping with the doors in the cottage, plus getting a new handrail made in a mid coloured timber. I've painted most of the beams and "half timbered" exposed wood in an off white matte gloss, it's made the room a lot lighter .. past owners have just ladled on the thick black matte paint that seems to be de riguer ... we bought an Old Charm Dutch dresser off eBay, and I have a couple of old oak armchairs, plus a 1950's Cintique fireside chair. And the dining chairs are a hotchpotch of junk shop finds. 2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoThanks Minnie. No plans for extractor at present - ceiling height is awkward - we usually ventilate well when cooking. I'd plan to keep the cupboard doors ivory to match trim. Just not 100% to go with green again but definitely want to knock out all the pine! Here's how the back wall might look with a sub tile and shelf... but not with that many pictures!

Feel free to ignore me but as they won’t fit in my kitchen I feel the need to share! These baskets from Zara and some boards could look fab (although appreciate it may not be your thing)!

2 years agoThanks Minnie.. Oh, I like those boards! I was all set to do a large terrazzo tile (see mock up) but chickened out in the end. I might live with it a bit and see what the best option is in the new year. I will be on the look out in the sales for nice textiles and accessories Great to have the hard and messy bit out of the way though :)

2 years agoTerrazo is lovely and love the colours, it is a difficult one as it’s so on trend. “Pink” zellige tiles could be an alternative with a plug in wall light (think this one may be too long but something along those lines)? I might just tile on the main run?
Agree though, leave it until the sales are on and it looks so lovely anyway!

2 years agoAlso considering an oversized cut out clock and looking at some kind of metal wall art installation too. Kinda frightened that tiles could make it look like an industrial kitchen. Or a public bathroom!
