Kitchen Paint Colour & Backsplash Choice

Hi.

I have recently bought a house and wamt to change the colour of the walls and also the backsplash to about 30cm from the top of the upstand.

A few things to note:
1. The walls are currently painted Dulux Almond White
2. The kitchen is to the rear of the property with a soith facing garden but still feels dark
3. The cabinets as u can see from the video are like a yellowish cream colour
4. I cannot afford to get the cabinets sprayed or painted
5. The floorimg will stay.
6. I do not want dark coloured walls or worktops

Now to my questions and hiping fot some advice?
1. Would white paimt work with the colour of cabinets and worktop?
2. Would Dulux Jasmine White or White Mist be a better optiom?
3. Can I combine the white walls with white tiles at 30cm high for the backsplash?
4. If I were to save money and get the worktops changed, what lofht coloured worktop would work with the existing cabinets, the new white walls and white tiled backsplash?

It does have a bit of a bland feel as there's so much cream but you have the makings of a luxurious-feeling kitchen. I'm not sure that it's tiling or new worktops that you need, so much as more personality. A few thoughts:

- I wouldn't bother with a backsplash - the simple upstand is modern and classic. Lots of discussions on here about backsplash vs painted walls and how to clean them - you might like to have a read through.

- I wouldn't combine white with the creamy yellow tones you have. A bright white (eg if you did go for a tiled backsplash) will make the creamy tones look dirty.

- You could introduce colour elsewhere:

- eg on the walls (I note that you don't want a dark colour but a mid-range taupe might work, paint some samples onto large sheets of paper so you can see how different colours work against the cabinets. You need something that's a different colour to the cabinets and floor. The ones you mention are, I think, too pale and too similar to the cabinets)

- you could go for some more colourful chairs or blind (a blind which comes down from the top would look more modern than the vertical blind)

- definitely add some art to the walls

- consider a rug under the table and chairs

- add some plants (real, not faux)

- consider adding an open shelf or two, which you can style with cookbooks, interesting crockery, trailing plants, candles, more art

- [this is a controversial one and very much depends on whether you are a "put it all away" or "leave it all out" type of person!] if it were me I'd try to get rid of some of the appliances, jars etc on the worktop. They don't add personality and look like they're in a bit of a jumble. Move the jars to the aforementioned open shelf, put the appliances (other than the kettle) away in a cupboard.

Have you considered a mirror? This would not only work well with your colour scheme but would provide a more spacious feel by reflecting the colours already in your kitchen. If you felt more adventurous tinted mirror glass. When using glass behind a cooker you can use plain or toughened for heat resistance but ultimately what should be considered is durability. In this location where it is likely that pots and pans could knock the splashback toughened should used. If you commissioned us for this installation then toughened glass would be provided as standard and we could explore different options for glass colour or backings if mirror didn't take your fancy. Hi, A glass splashback in a neutral (or bold colour if you wish) would look lovely and tie in with the contemporary look you are after. They are easy to maintain and there's no grout lines to worry about. You could opt for a light neutral such as stone, light grey or pale blue or a more bolder orange/ teal or yellow. Alternatively, using the same worktop design as a splashback is also very effective in maintaining a modern, sleek look.

Often with upstands people don’t have tiles as it can look a little clunky. They tend to paint the wall above with a washable paint instead. However, if you want tiles how about a pearlised finish, such as Zelig tiles in pink or blue? I can see you like pink!
