Flooring advice
Comments (3)Hi Phil - great question, lots to consider here! Firstly would you mind sharing some pictures so that it would give a better idea of the space? If you are laying under floor heating, you could only have certain flooring like engineered wood which won't expand and contract as much as solid wood. Parquet flooring is all the rage now and would look great flowing from the kitchen to the extension. If you want to have the parquet flooring in your hallway, cloakroom you could have the same type of wood laid different if you wanted to create different zones, like the picture below. I would suggest a different style of flooring for the back reception, depending on what you will use it for and how you want it to look and feel. Is carpet an option or do you definitely want hard flooring? If however you are going to parquet all the floors, remember to use rugs so that it creates zones. Let me know what you think and would be good to see some pictures! Thanks Rukmini Patel Interior Design...See Morewhite floor advice
Comments (6)We have a white carpet up the stairs and all throughout the upstairs of our house (bar the bathrooms) and it's a challenge, just with 5 cats. So I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has anything like a normal family home and I would imagine the same pretty well applies to most flooring, it will all require a lot of upkeep, maintaining the look....See MoreFlooring advice please

Comments (6)Creating a sleek and modern, yet budget-friendly, renovation with a smooth and durable wooden floor is possible. Since you're based in the UK, consider these options: Engineered Oak with Smooth Finish: While you mentioned that Oak engineered flooring is rarely smooth, it's worth checking with local suppliers or flooring stores. Some may offer Oak engineered flooring with a smooth finish. Oak is known for its durability and timeless appeal. Laminate Flooring: Laminate flooring is a budget-friendly alternative to hardwood. It can mimic the look of wood, including dark wood, and often comes in smooth finishes. Laminate is durable, easy to clean, and suitable for high-traffic areas. Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP): LVP has gained popularity for its ability to imitate the look of wood convincingly while being budget-friendly and easy to maintain. It's available in various styles, including smooth finishes and dark wood shades. Check Local Suppliers: Visit local flooring suppliers or showrooms in your area. They may carry a variety of flooring options, including smooth-finish wood alternatives that are more readily available in the UK market. Online Research: Explore online retailers and flooring websites. Some suppliers offer a wide range of flooring options, and you might find smooth-finish engineered oak or affordable dark wood alternatives. Consider Bamboo: Bamboo flooring can be a cost-effective and eco-friendly option. It's available in various colors, including darker shades, and can have a smooth finish. Bamboo is known for its durability and sustainability. Budget-Friendly Hardwood: While hardwood can be more expensive, you might find budget-friendly hardwood options like acacia or birch, which can be finished in a smooth and dark appearance. Ask for Samples: Before making a decision, request samples of the flooring materials you're interested in. This allows you to see and feel the texture in person and ensure it matches your vision. Professional Installation: Invest in professional installation to ensure that the flooring is laid correctly, maximizing its durability and longevity. Consider Long-Term Costs: Keep in mind that while certain options may be more budget-friendly upfront, it's essential to consider long-term maintenance and durability to make an informed decision.
