Utility space usage
Hi all.
So my wife finally had a utility! At the moment we’ve just used the original kitchen sink and unit. We want to try and make the best of what is a small space.
Can anyone send me examples of their small utility, or ideas of products for making the best use? Things like hanging airers, etc.
Due to the soil pipe in the left corner we can’t get the washing machine and tumble dryer next to(or on top of) each other.
We don’t want to spend loads, but we do want it to look nice :-)

4 years agoI would use the void under counter to have a laundry basket on wheels and install shelves or shallow upper cabinets for storing cleaning along on the left wall
I would swap out the radiator for a towel radiator, great for drying out wet coats, towels and hanging things

Might be interesting to ask your architect what they can suggest for building in the space in first, as there may be restrictions with it being close to the boundary ... even if it can't be a proper room - perhaps it can have some glass roofing or something to keep it dry ?! Comments (1)Now I am thinking again about having the washing machine in the upstairs bathroom!! There is plenty of space for it, but the bathroom is off of my daughter's bedroom...so noise and access might be an issue. At the moment she is only 3, so access less of a problem buy I expect I wouldn't be able to put loads on in the eve. Perhaps an easy issue to overcome. In her teenage years access will be a problem perhaps, but then again we could switch bedrooms with her at that point! Decisions, decisions. Comments (8)Hi Miriam, Thank you for your response, I was thinking about exactly the same layout but my worries are that the lighting may not improve at all and this is the most expensive option as involves redoing whole downstairs. My husband still want to keep the front room separatly but hopefully he would agree od sliding door. Some of these wall mounted airers would be ideal above your radiator. Or there’s the ceiling mounted one that might fit across the end of the room by the radiator.
