Do you have more pictures...all walls? all rooms?

all walls are same color, maple floors in living room, but carpet in loft and bedroom which will be replaced with just a neutral carpet. The loft has shelves as seen in the picture that may have to come down as I'm hoping two twins will fit on either side of the window, although it's going to be tight. I need ideas for every room. The décor in there currently is seller's so none of it will stay. THANKS!!

Have you though about painting one of your walls a darker colour like an espresso brown or a Charcoal grey? You could stain the wood or paint it. It will allow the lighter items in the room to pop!

Wood can be color washed (e.g. whitewashed) or painted. If you leave the walls all wood, I would try to skew the furniture to metal or paint to avoid getting excessively woody.

The stove should be ignored in the decor in the sense that you do not decorate or accentuate the stove in any way, any more than you would a water heater. I hope the stove is already sitting on granite or other non-combustible flooring? What you can do is use the black from the stove in furniture, e.g. coffee tables with black steel legs, black knobs on cabinets. This will help pull together a cabin that could probably use some crispening up. (It is so easy to get twee and ruffly and drab as the previous owner has done.)

No I hadn't thought of that, I agree it would make colors pop, but would that make it even darker? Maybe not to just do a wall. Makes me nervous to paint the wood, although I've recently seen log cabins whitewashed and they are amazing. Thanks for the thought!

No the stove is only on the wood floor, but it is gas, so no sparks from wood. I do like black accents, have some black lamp shades, etc....yes, I agree it needs to be crispened up, I don't want a lodge look, or drab and dreary, something brighter. Valances will come down and need to figure out shades, blinds, etc. THX

I like the idea of using black to accent. You need a dark or bright color to keep it all from looking drab since your wood is relatively light. If you use only light colors it is going to all just look monotoned. Look at the pictures with the cream chair or the plaid curtains. They just blend into the wall because they are the same tone of color. Pale blues mixed with the black would work well.

Yes, chrisinky, I agree, so many colors just blend in, that's why it's been difficult to decide on sofa colors. I just painted a book shelf a pale blue that will be going in the back part of the kitchen to lighten things up. I do like light blues, blacks and blue. Also love sage colors. I'm thinking I need bright pops of colors in the pillows, etc so I do get some pop in the rooms. Thanks for your help!!

I meant I like the light blues, black and browns.............it shouldn't be so matchy matchy anyway!

Thanks, decoenthusiaste, I do have one of the check shower curtains from Country Curtains and plan on looking for more from them. I won't be whitewashing the cabin walls, that's way too much work and too permanent for me! I'll crispen it in other ways.

We have a client on Houzz that had us make a 10" White Oak floor that looks similar to their wooden walls made of pine. A lot of cabins look this way.

I really like the fireplace in the picture above. If you decide to add that corner fireplace someday, the dark color really makes it stand out. With the mantle matching the wood walls, it looks very nice. It makes me think that charcoal gray may be a substitute for black if you like that better. I've also seen coffee tables that have slate tile tops in the same colors as this fireplace. It has the dark colors, but also picks up on some browns.

Ok, kind of doing a rethink of how to brighten things up. How do you feel about furniture like side tables that are painted white/off white that looks distressed with some of the paint sanded off? Maybe you could paint the first coat the blue you have already used & use white over it, then sand to see the blue in places. Since you are using blue already, the white could stand out in the right amounts. I still think you need a pop of a dark color. Black or dark brown for the couch? Then use that color in some accessories like lamps & picture frames. With the blue you could use various shades of the same color family.

Sage green is always going to look terrific with your wood. You don't need to add more brown, and the black things will happen naturally. An antiqued aqua (blue-green blue) is really gorgeous with sage - they are natural color twins and perfect with off-white / cream. upholstered chairs are much easier to lay out than a loveseat so definitely do sofa and chairs - if you can buy pottery barn slipcovered things - they have a good stone green or a twill off-white which will brighten your room. Painted wood coffee table find from craigslist in muted aqua - wonderful - blue-green and cream pillows, print side chairs - then it is all working for you. Here are some fabrics - use these for curtains, pillows, tailor the next table skirt flat in this stripe using velcro -

Your place has so much terrific character - with fresh, modern fabrics you will get the look you want. Slipcovers are great with kids - i swear by mine. Ikea also has good slipcover armchairs - the ektorp, but not terrific colors - for that you have to go to Bemz, and then you've spent enough to have bought the pottery barn in the first place. Definitely get comfortable chairs!

I did see this great sofa in a pale sage green that I loved, but not sure if it is going to be too big or how to configure it in the room. Once I am in the cabin, the end of Sept. I will be able to tell better if that sofa will work, it's absolutely gorgeous and so comfy. Love the fabric samples, thanks so much for sending. It is a huge help to get your thoughts. I do love the antiqued aqua and have started collecting a few accessories. I also have Pottery Barn's drum lamp shades in their soft icy blue color that I thought would look good as well. But need to nail down a sofa color.............but I already have the sages and aquas in my present home. The cabin will be a second home but am planning on taking the aquas I have now to the cabin as I used them for spring/summer in my present home. I love, love painted furniture so I am open to using that and love to paint furniture. Thanks again!

I also like the idea of turquoise anything. I like furniture painted that color or pillows, and I really like metal accessories that have that weather turquoise color on them like old copper.

Yes, I totally agree, I just purchased a pale turquoise quilt that I love and can put lots of fun pillows with it. I also have a lamp for the bedroom with an off white wooden base and then at the top of the base is a piece of weathered copper that is mainly turquoise.
