Hi Nicky, When a room has more sloping ceilings than horizontal ones, you can create a really harmonious look by painting them all the same colour as the walls. This way you can still appreciate the angles in the room, whilst perceiving a unified and cohesive space. To maintain the luxurious look you would like, stick to a tonal palette of colours and introduce luxurious textures with the furniture and furnishings. Whilst bright white is fresh and light, it can make a space feel a little cold and clinical, so try soft neutrals to bring an air of calm sophistication to the scheme. The image below shows walls and ceilings painted in a soft neutral, with a natural pinkish undertone, such as Dulux Nomadic Glow 5. This is combined with refined cream textured wool cushions and footstool which complete the look. You could go a step further and make your room feel really dramatic and luxurious with a bolder colour. There’s a really big move towards using darker colours in interiors, and they work particularly well in bedrooms because they are restful and cosy – you’ll feel truly cocooned in your room. The image below shows several tones of the same colour used, with a dark stripe picking out just one of the angles. You could try picking 4 shades from a cool blue grey palette such as Steel Symphony. Finish it off with luxury linen bedding and throws for a quietly refined feeling of modern luxury. If you have 1900 high roofing trusses the 2200 ridge height is irrelevant because your ceiling will be the trusses.... in fact with insulation and board the ceiling will be a little lower. And the ceilings of the ground floor will be fixed to beams that are not strong enough to be an upstairs floor so likely your floor level will come up. And most of the space in your loft will have much less height than in the very centre. To put it into context if your downstairs rooms have standard doors they will be 1981mm high (plus architrave). This means there will be insufficient height at the top of your stairs (and I believe build regs says this has to be 2m). And finding a door to put on the bathroom will be a problem, but mostly you will only be able to stand up in the very middle of the room. People do convert their lofts to have this kind of space but find it doesn’t add resale value. There may also be building regs issues with the stairs rising from a space that is open to the kitchen. Have you built the house already? Can you change the design to have a higher roof?

I think you would actually be ok with taking the color over it all. It probably depends more on how you wanted the room to feel. The current lighter tone gives space to the room, but your selection Oval Room Blue, would probably give you a more intimate feel. With white items such as wardrobes etc, it could end up giving a coastal feel which you could build on as a theme with linen bedclothes, lampshades, blinds.

i like Jethro's idea - and I wouldn't have velux windows in bedroom unless you think it's going to be a really dark room just with the regular windows. definitely add velux in bathroom though. we are extending and keeping the pitched ceilings in bedroom and ensuite, gives a not-huge room a bit more wow factor and less of a box. yes more difficult to position lights and probably to heat too, but worth it i think. ceiling height plays a huge part in how you feel in a room so should always try and maximise wherever possible (within reason, keeping to human scale)
