Hello Ruby Gosh those samples look gorgeous. If your connected rooms have grey oak engineered flooring why are you considering anything else? Many kitchens do well with engineered wood flooring. It depends on how much 'spillage' you are likely to get on your floor but in most households now there is little water that gets on the floor. The only other consideration is fat.... if you fry a lot fat splashes will affect a wooden floor. If you think your lifestyle will be amenable to it do consider taking your lovely grey wooden floor right through into the kitchen - it is warm underfoot and will make it feel very connected to the rest of the house. Hi cj73. I agree with @minnie101 that the taupe sounds good but do check the colours before ordering. Sometimes two brown tones together look awful so get samples of both the grey and the taupe coloured tiles and lay them down on your wooden floor to see which looks best. Look at them in daylight and in artificial light. The tiles will need to be grouted so that is another colour decision you need to take. If you can get samples of the grout colours while you are considering the tiles it will be very useful at this stage to try a few options out. Good luck. Yasmin

Thanks all. I'm having huge porcelain tiles elsewhere and had hoped to carry them through, but the really big ones also have a huge price tag, and because the bootroom, bathroom and utility are smaller spaces, I thought I might go for a smaller format to save a bit of money. The big ones we plan to buy are a pale, warm neutral but don't come in a smaller size, so I thought it might be best to get something totally different rather than try to match the big ones (both will be visible when you stand in certain places). Hence thinking about slate. But it sounds like I should stick with porcelain and there are definitely a few options that have the dark look of slate without the issues it seems to have.
