Any advice about slate floor tiles?

2 years agoI wanted slate in my kitchen, but I was advised it can flake and will need sealing. Of course I don’t know how true this is but I then chose slate effect porcelain instead. Looks like the real thing. Very easy to keep clean although crumbs show up as it’s dark! Most tiles are cold underfoot so cosy slippers are essential. Lovely and cool in summer.

Comments (7)I’m not sure it’s slate In those pictures, but, like you, I wanted a natural stone rustic finish for my fireplace, I used Indian Sandstone which comes in so many shades. The slabs are available from some garden centres and most builders merchants and are often used in the garden. They come in a rustic riven finish, or a smooth calibrated finish for a more modern look. Global Stone have loads and you can search their website for local stockists. Comments (4)Are there rubber stoppers on the bottom of the chair legs? Sometimes, training shoes can leave marks like these on shiny surfaces. Anything glazed should clean up to new, no scratches. 'Nana's Secret' is a paste cleaner that is really good at cleaning diffiecult marks....See More

2 years agoWe moved into a house a couple of years ago with very riven slate tiles (Indian possibly) in the kitchen and bootroom. Due to a leak last year, we‘ve replaced the tiles in the bootroom with porcelain slate effect tiles, which I much prefer and they look textured but are completely smooth. They’re much much easier to clean, and I’ve not gone over on my ankle, nor stubbed my toe on them, which I keep doing in the kitchen! The real slate has also chipped, and makes an awful noise when the dining room chairs are dragged over it.
