My attic needs help!!!!
Hi Everyone,
So spent this weekend in my attic. Found things which seem troublesome but I hope to sort it out
1) There was this whitish mould, as in my previous pics, all across most rafters! or nearly 2/3
2) The deeper I went into the loft, the more pooh pellets I found. Seemed like a million of them, most likely rat I think. Strewn across all the insulation. Jonathan was right, this is definitely a vermin problem and when I showed those pics to my builder he said it was rats.
3) Found a couple of ’blow outs’ or holes in the felt. The problem these were at rafters, way beyond the reach of my hand or in the centre of the attic. Sort of where the rafters slope down, if this makes sense
4) Could only access half the loft as the other is seperated by the chimney/ wall and the space is v small.
Will do it next week

I managed to get the spear and jackson sprayer, with an extension and sprayed the rafters, clearing most of the mould. The sprayer was fantastic, managed to use the angles and extension to reach far beyond my reach
Used this Sika guard solution also found on amazonone tin of 5 L covered one half of the attic rafters, which appeared cleaned of mould after being sprayed.
As mentioned, I could twist the sprayer at various angles and get into the various crevices, so happy about it

Comments (3)3x2ft. is a tiny space. Make sure to either use a pocket door or an outwardly-opening one, or even a small bifolding pair, since a normal door won't do here. A small corner cloakroom washbasin is a must. Comments (7)Hi. I agree with Karen re the layout. It's a great space btw. Personally I'd go for a right hand facing chaise and use a chair to the right of the tv to hide the bin from the living area. If you wanted a touch of modern oriental have a look at the attached link, the orange sofa comes in colours that would work with that scheme, they also have one that matches the dining chair legs. The art can also be made in bespoke colours if you liked the colours on the link. It's a bit out there but you could consider a hanging rattan chair for a slight oriental feel! Excuse my photoshopping but it was just to give a rough idea :) If you don't like that (!) I'd use a rattan armchair instead and then hang a pendant over the sofa as per the 3rd pic, it shouldn't be too difficult with the downlight positions? I'd probably go for a sculptural light over the table. I might also consider layering rugs As I think it would work with the room. Comments (5)Hi Onika, Inevitably this will require a few external modifications to the house. You can have direct access from the reception room to the back garden, by installing new doors. Connecting the kitchen with this reception room will involve works to the structure. It's obvious to me that the reception room facing the street will become the study room, unless you want it to be facing garden. The utility room in the middle is not a perfect space as it's there to mainly connect the kitchen with the fourth bedroom. This can be changed with a small extension towards the garden. If the garden is big enough, you can always build an outbuilding that could serve multiple purposes from study room to utility etc. For a small fee we could develop the best layout for your study. Some good news
That blow out in the felt is easily reachable from the other side of the loft!!
Any ideas, on how to temporarily patch this up?
Also, any advise on how to clean the loft? My plan is to put chunks of insulation in bin bags and get rid of them. There’s incredible amount of dust, even on touching the insulation! Looks like thick smoke in the flashlight. May be I could haul a hoover up there and once I get rid of all the insulation, give it a good clean?Thanks

Hi everyone,
Hope all is well
Just tying up loose ends, and will move in later this month
Installed a state of art alarm system, so feel much better. Will send before and after pics soon, as requested. Will also be a thank you from my side
-- One damp squib this weekend was the felt. As you can see from
in the above pictures, there are several blowouts in the felt, which I repaired with Gorilla tape and 'felt' v happy about it.This weekend I went back to inspect the attic and sadly ALL these tapes had come undone!!
Felt a bit miffed, as I thought the tape could stick to everything. It just fell off, like cheap paper
Any other ideas or options?
