Loft conversion - mezzanine, nice or nasty?
Comments (14)@Victoria, Well, now that you've asked... We got planning permission for the project back in November but the first builder we asked for a quote suggested that we were wasting a lot of potential by not putting another room up there (at the top/back of the first picture). So, I revised the drawing by adding another bedroom to the rear and putting another bathroom/en-suite where the void and resubmitting for planning. After some time, the structural engineer came up with drawings and calculations for the project and the builder's quote came in @ £125k. With VAT on top of that, we just can't justify spending that much and was expecting it to be less. So, the whole project is on hold while we consider our options... Thanks for your interest....See MoreConversion of bungalow in to a house
Comments (3)A bit more info would be useful please. E.g floor plans, photos, what you're hoping to achieve. When you say 'house' do you mean removing the roof adding on another floor or converting the loft? If converting the loft, will you need dormer windows for extra height / space or will veluxes be ok? How many bedrooms will you need? Hard to offer advice without more info....See MoreBefore & After: Bungalow Conversion
Comments (8)The bathroom looks nice but I'm sorry it really bugs me when people buy bungalows only to convert them into houses! Grr. If you want a house, buy a house. Bungalows are an endangered species as it is without continuing to lose more of them. Save our bungalows!! (said by someone who lives in and loves her bungalow in case you hadn't guessed!!)...See MoreFloor plan ideas for a Bungalow and conversion to Dormor.
Comments (9)The house is not for young family, boys are 10 and 13 if it makes sense. Totally we would like to keep 3 bedrooms on the ground floor. Upstairs extension I am thinking of 2 bedrooms for guests. The front garage I don’t need but I would like to keep the garage which is accessible from road behind (cul-de-sac). As shown in my plan as playroom it should actually be a gym for boys. Only to be used as a garage when I am out on holiday, hence I am not much stressed about it. I have mentioned in my brief that upstairs open area can be used as gym, what my thought was just a thread mill and hanging boxing bag. The corner side by backside garage door is the sunny aspect of the house, not fully from the back but from sideways. The Bathroom as soon as you enter the house is same size of the bedroom next to it, hence thinking of making the bathroom smaller. We would like to keep the kitchen and dining separate, except a breakfast table in the kitchen. The hall by entrance would like some cupboard for hanging coats and shoe rack, the hall is huge as well. The living room to the front garage is a flat roof hence the height is 1 brick down compared to the rest of the house. As going up and putting a new roof I am told that that can be sorted....See MoreJonathan
