Looking for a front elevation ideas for Bungalow conversion

I am in the process of adding further rooms to the existing bungalow. But during the initial ideas given by builders I was told that if I build a proper 2 storey it is very expensive, hence to consider dormer style extension on top. As looking at this bungalow you can make out that it doesn't have a wow factor to say it is a house. What I mean is the front elevation is not that great. It looks like long church hall. I was looking for some advice in achieving my 2-3 bedroom upstairs by removing the flat roof what kind of style would I be able to achieve

I think you'd be better off posting a plan with dimensions. Are you set against the full two storey and having dormers. Did you get costings from the builder or are you just taking his opinion? Yes, brick two storey is more expensive, but obviously:- 1 - more spacious and 2 - adds more value.

I guess it depends on your budget. Anything is possible with the right amount of money.

If you post a plan, then maybe someone will pick it up and can give you options, then you can get costings properly.

thanks for comments. Yes I thought of those things too but Render may be too costly but I like the idea of wood if not too much maintence. The bricks are good too so doesnt really need render, except it would look better! I was also wondering about the render that is already there??! replace with the wood? And if we go up, how to place the upstairs window without it just looking out of place. Have not got an architect / surveyor yet!

Thanks for your replies. Ha ha very good THE WHITE HOUSE. I love old places but I’m not sentimental about them and won’t keep something just because it’s original if I’m not keen on it. I’m into old cars and am happy to modify them and cheese off the purists if I think it’s an improvement. The place will look awesome when it’s finished, it just needs A bit of trial and error to figure out how to colour the front. I think I’ll first try a darker grey on the bottom brickwork and post the pic on here for your viewing pleasure. Here’s a couple of pics of the rear so you can see how his progresses.
