Advice on window frame and render colour

Advice is needed before we start on our bungalow extension and refurbishment. I always said I would not buy a house with pale brick/dark brown window frames but we fell in love with the coastal location! We have got planning permission to render the whole property but can't decide on window frame and render colour.

I'm leaning towards Agate frame windows RAL 7038 with an off white render but not sure if this will have sufficient contrast, but I'm not a fan of the popular option of anthracite frames and a white render.

Personally I think you need to find an image you like and copy that style. This may well mean you have to change the window shape and size and the roof. My preference is for white windows with a coloured render

I guess it depends on the look you are going for overall. I am by the coast too and wanted to modernise my bungalow so went for the white and anthracite windows which I am happy with. However, I would definitely look at using K Rend or something similar so you don’t have to continually repaint your render in a coastal area. What about a sage green, pale grey or pale blue for windows? This would lighten the look of the house and likely help a lot at the back which seems very dark at the moment.

Hi Charlotte I understand where you are coming from about the brick detail around the windows and sills which are lovely but they are small designer details whereas the porch is a much bigger area of bricks and if it were my home I would certainly render it as the rest of the house.Also although the porch has always been like that, it looks like it has been added on later, I may be wrong and just been left with bricks exposed.You have also got the nice brick paving around the house. Why don't you just print the picture of the house out, put a tracing sheet of paper over it and just colour in the porch the same colour as the render and you will get a better idea of how it will look. Or maybe render the porch and just as you have the brick detail around the windows just do the same around the porch, this would look really good too. Good luck Jean, Art Decor Designs

£800,000 in debt after making sure they had taken all the money they could no doubt. The Dyes could easily solve your letterbox and sealed unit issue if they were interested in doing the right thing, as they only place these orders with another company in Lithuania, who are still the same supplier for Hatches. Fyntons/Hatches are basically selling on the contract for significant profit...if they ordered those parts again for you it would cost them next to nothing. Being a Covid issue is absolute nonsense...every other business involved in building and renovation is booming since Covid. And how strange to set up an identical business right in the middle of lockdown! Saw an opportunity to run with the money and start again.

I think it depends on the style of window and interior style. Very slim ones in a contemporary setting look great. My architect spec'd dark grey or black windows inside and out, I wanted a softer more warm homely feeling interior but still contemporary so went for a light maple timber finish, the external frame is black ( the frames are aluclad and fairly thick compared to the very slim frames that are popular). I'm really pleased with the windows ( just put in), dark internal frames would have dominated what will be a natural light decor.

Thank you for your reply. Every house on this road seems mix designs so we just want something warm and welcoming. The neighbors near us is rather looks a bit bland. We also planned to stay here for a long time to come.

Cute house. I like your choice of Agate windows and off white render. I think it will really suit your house. I rather like Celestial Blue by Little Greene for the windows too as it has a coastal vibe with white render.
