Charging station in kitchen unit

Hi all,
I've seen many images and even some kitchen companies offering a 'charging drawer' where you can plug in and then hide away devises such a mobile phones and tablets. Has anyone successfully created a diy version of this set up? Could I ask my builder to install extra sockets in the back of my tall kitchen unit so that one shelf could be used as a charging station? Do these small devices get sufficiently hot to be a fire risk?
When my house in renovated I want to avoid the current situation of kids ipads, phone and drone toy in a heap of wires in corner of living room!
If you have done this would you mind sharing a photograph please?
