You have no natural light so black cabinets would be a huge no for me.

The first thing I'd do is get rid of the angular peninsula and square it off. I'd also look into slab door/drawer cabinets in walnut or possibly rift oak. I don't mind the idea of black as long as it's done as an accent and not all the cabinetry. Here are some modern kitchens with slab cabinets:

thank you everyone for your feedback so far! i totally agree with getting rid of the angled peninsula, unfortunately i don’t know if it will be within our budget, we plan to at least cut it down so it’s not high and it will have bar stools, but we’ll see. :( i’m open to all wood cabinets i just really don’t think i want white counters. so maybe just black counters would that still be too dark? here are some style pics i like, i do realize some have white counters, but i like the design!

i will also say that even though our kitchen is in the middle of the room and not next to a window this is the view from the kitchen sink, so i think the house does get quite a bit of natural light, but i don’t know if bringing black into the kitchen will still cause that room to be too dark?!

Choose the colors you want to live with. Natural light isn't significant for you. It's really not enough in any kitchen. Plan for a minimum 450 lumens at the counter for any work zones, including the island. Ambient lighting for the whole space works day and night. Also, on cloudy days. You'll use the lighting for all times you use the space. That's reality. If you want dark cabinets and counters specify adequate lighting and it will show as the beautiful affect you want. LED cans can supply all you'll need. You might consider black stained wood lowers. No chipping problems.

This is my MCM ktichen and IMO no black cabinets ever in a MCM kitchen I pushed the box a bit since I love both MCM and contemporary . Our house is a MCM ranch so kept the exterior the way it was designed we swirched the kitchen space for the DR to give us a much nicer view from the kitchen and also a bigger kitchen we also replaced the tiny aluminum slder windows for larger windows in the DR

I wouldn't go full on midcentury but incorporate some components that work with the rest of your house.

I think Corbusier's kitchen is very functional so myabe that is just me .IMO a lot more functional than the FLR one for sure

Le Corbusier’s kitchen looks functional to me too, but it lacks joy, to me anyway. I prefer your kitchen @Patricia Colwell Consulting. I love the way you used orange in the space.

@Kim Rendon only one of your images uses black, all of them use wood. You seem to be drawn to counter materials with minimal movement, modular ”mod” looking backsplash tiles, and slab cabinets - all lovely choices. Try the cardboard experiment and see how it goes for you. You paint long lengths of cardboard the black you have in mind and tape it up on top of the cabinets. This will help you determine how much black you will like in the space, you get to see it in your space at different times of day.
