Butterfly palm from Homebase. Not sure if it needs lots of light. They don't have a lot of choice might be better to go somewhere else. I think Yucca's are a bit old hat now.

Funny you should say that ED; a friend and I just decided to do our compilation show again at Edinburgh next year. We did it for the first time in 2017. It's called Laugh begins at Forty and has five or six different comedians over 40 performing every day. I'd better get the house finished!

Hi. Could be a yucca...but I think it’s more likely a phormium (New Zealand flax). This one looks very similar: https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/94527/Phormium-Yellow-Wave-(v)/Details Best thing to do is get right in there and remove/cut the dead brown bits right back plus you can also remove leaves that you think look unsightly and just give it a nicer shape. Tidying up the dead/dying leaves will encourage new shoots to grow next spring and if you’re lucky it might produce flower stalks! The flowers are nothing spectacular but I love how alien👽 they look. 🙂

I have the same issue in my kitchen. I did have vertical blinds which I hated but they did create shade but blocked the view. I’ve now got curtains which are great, but block the view! I then bought an awning, only a cheapie, and it works to a degree but only in the afternoon. I think a sturdier larger awning may do the job better but they’re not cheap. Also cranking it open ain’t easy! You can get electric ones. You will notice in the pic below how little shade it creates. Bigger the better I think.
