Looks lovely as it is. You could put a chair there but will it be used?

Maybe a sculptural piece? Wooden? Since you have a bench seat already in the area, a chair might just be one seat too much. A furniture piece might take away the sense of space and be crowding, so maybe a purely decorative scuplture is a way to go.

You could paint the area under the stairs a darker colour and use where you have the cabinet as a desk space or a reading area with a comfy chair and book shelves. If you don’t want to change the wall colour, I would just get a more statement plant in a bigger pot and keep it as a shoe storage area with small bench/chair so you can put your shoes on comfortably.

I like it as it is. Maybe put a bigger plant in - something in one of those planters on legs would look good.

Ooo Marina, thanks, that may be a solution, I'll have to find a nice sized table not too big as don't want to crowd the space. I'll see what I can find. I like all the ideas, thank you
