Definitely sand first, the dust gets absolutely everywhere. Ours was decorated first although not the original intention and although the guys did a great job of clearing up every now and again I find little bits even high up on walls that I've missed. I also had to have little parts of the skirts retouched up with paint

Thanks tamp75. It turns out the painter is only doing a white mist coat today & is returning later in the week so I have time to buy even more testers. LOL. He said I can paint the testers on the walls in the extension which should help as it is west facing whereas the playroom that I tested them on is east facing. We were originally going to go with Cornforth White kitchen cabinets but DIY's standard light grey was a lovely colour (&,cheaper!) so we went with that. I think if we'd gone with Cornforth White the decision making on the wall colour would have been easier!!

My kitchen was slightly larger but needed the light units. We went with a white gloss, a wood effect dark grey laminate worktop and teamed it with walnut effect laminate flooring. The flooring really warmed the look up In my experience ... I wish I'd have had full glass splashbacks as the amount of sauce that gets splattered on the painted wall would have been easier to wipe off glass! Worth the money in my opinion. I went for white/clear as didn't want to commit to a strong colour. If we had stayed (not sold it) I would have painted around the units a colour which could have easily been changed. You could also consider a clear glass splash back (above the oven) that can be screwed on. That way you can paint or paper behind it and change it when you fancy. Usually they glue them on so you are stuck with it (no pun intended) Definitely look around for a better quality gloss unit as they can chip (sister has high street ones and they always chip!)

When considering an extension we were advised not to have the doors at the back. The reason being was that the extension wasn’t big enough and therefore you run the risk that you simply create a corridor to the garden....I imagine may be the same reason for having the bifolds on the side for this one?
