Hi, the electrician is doing first fix this week and asking for lots of decisions. At the 'dining room' end of our big open plan space I would like a pendant above the dining table which is not central to that square of ceiling. I thought we had agreed to have 3 spotlights in an L shape in the rest of the space on a separate switch to the pendant (only because husband insists of having spotlights, I'm not sure they're necessary).
I wasn't home today and electrician has persuaded husband that it should be a grid of 4 spots and then the pendant as well but I think this will look wrong. Surely any attractive light from the pendant shade will be washed out if there is a spotlight within 50cm of it? So I wouldn't ever be able to have all the lights on if for instance I wanted a well lit room on a dull day and a well lit table. Why do builders and electricians have an obsession with an equally spaced grid of spotlights on every bit of ceiling possible? I don't want it to look like an airport and I'm getting irritated.
Thought husband was on board with my idea but now he's siding with the tradesmen and we've locked horns. Opinions please electrician is pressing for a decision overnight. I don't want only 4 spots, I find that cold and characterless. The pendant has to stay.
