Garages/Workshops Design Dilemma Renovating

Please help with ideas

We are trying to get ideas on layout, cantdecide what would work best, ideally we want the kitchen bigger, unsure on to take it to the left into garage or knock out dining wall. Also would love a hallway but no room :( we plan on using the garage as entry point due to this. Any ideas would be most appreciated:)

Why do you say there isn't room for a hallway? Do you have plans with dimensions?

I would look into converting just the back of the garage to connect the utility and WC to the house, and create a little mud room.

Thanks so much HU for that, it's great to see some ideas. I don't have a plan with measurements unfortunately, but I can add them manually:

Lounge - 4.27m x 3.53m

Dining - 3.25. X 2.31m

Kitchen - 3m x 2.4m

Garage - 5m x 2.4m

The lounge isn't the biggest so I thought adding a hall way is going to shrink it further.

Ideally I'd like to keep the double doors into the dining room, and don't want to see kitchen units through them from the lounge.

It's tough to decide lol.

I also want to knock out the bathroom wall upstairs.

I don't have anything wildly different to add but I like sketching ideas so here's my two cents! You've already figured out the best position for your sofas and tv. Just pull the sofas in a bit as Jen P suggested and pull the ottoman back from exile, and already you'll see a difference. If you're tired of the carpet, try a dark wooden floor with a huge rug? Carolina is spot on with the wraparound tv console..I'd add shelves around the corner for books, photos, and a few favourite items. Then you need two fantastic armchairs. This is where you add personality and purpose to that dead space. It becomes a cosy conversational corner for when you're not watching tv. Nice and close to the kitchen for refilling your wine/coffee! You're lucky that pretty much any colour and style of chair will work with the sofas. If you're really feeling brave, the chairs don't even have to match each other...! You can draw from the burgundy/rust colours in your cushions, or just find chairs you love and use them as a starting point for a new colour scheme. One last thought...is the door to stairs used a lot, or can you go around by the kitchen? If you could block it and extend the built in unit all the way along, that would be even better...

If it were me I would definitely block up the back door as you are planning. I would also get rid of the door to what is presumably the understairs cupboard. Even if this is steps to a cellar you can relocate the door to the room next door. I would fit the kitchen with the washer/dryer/dishwasher sink in a row. On the opposite side I would have tall units then the hob. I prefer built in fridges because they don’t stand out and will sit more comfortably in this galley kitchen- if you had two side by side fridges you would have more space than in an American style fridge but personally I would have one fridge and one tall cupboard for storage. Even if you have a range you will likely want a microwave so instead I would have the ovens you want stacked in a tower- the image shows mismatched appliances and the microwave is too high but you get the idea! You could also have extra depth cabinets on this side of the room. They are normally just 8cm deeper but that probably mean 15% more storage. You could also look for cabinets with a lower plinth and taller door because again this means more storage. I would try not to crowd the walls with cabinets for fear of drawing the room in and would prefer to see open shelves on the sink wall. In the second part of the room I would have a small table and chairs. I wouldn’t have full depth storage here as I think the room being lower will make it feel tight. But you could have a demi height, reduced depth cabinet for loads of extra storage- I have mirrored mine to help the room feel bigger.

Sorry I forgot to reply..I like the dark furniture in the 2nd pic i posted. ikea Hemnes is a black brown which may be worth a look but I’m not sure how size compares to yours. i tried painting the walls in a similar colour but it came out rather dark! Your curtains are rather lilac so have tried adding more purple tones. I can’t photoshop btw, made worse due to the camera angle (!) but it was just to give you an idea. Anyway, i would layer the bed with throws and cushions and consider adding a pendant light, the feather ones are great for texture and can be hung a bit lower than normal as no damage if your head hits. Plug in wall lights could be an alternative to lamps. Linen bedding is also great for a cosy feel (used with a plump duvet A blanket box may fit at the end of the bed for extra storage if needed

The lounge width, is it at the widest part?

I do like the double doors between the living and dining rooms. A garage conversion might be the way to go, then. Or could you extend out in the back?

As for the bathroom, I'd consider just knocking out the wall, closing off the entrance to the WC, and swapping the vanity and shower.

Another bathroom idea, assuming it fits. Someone can be showering while someone else is brushing their teeth and a third person is using the loo:

I like the look of what you've done into the garage, food for thought for sure, at the minute the garage roof is flat, I'd ideally like to have it at a slop, with velux windows in the roof, budget permitting, not sure how much this would cost.
