Lighting under Integrated Extractor

Kitchen plan has an integrated extractor fan above the hob as in the 3d image. There is a bright glass splash back underneath.
The trouble is lights built into the extractor will not match the lights built under the two adjacent wall cupboards. Therefore the glass splashback won’t be evenly lit as a feature. (Also many extractors don’t allow the built in light to be turned on without firing up the extractor.)
What do people do about this annoying lighting problem ?
Only suggestion so far is battening the wall units off the wall to install an LED strip behind the back of the wall units and extractor ? Has anyone done that ? Anyone got photos of their glass splashback lit up ?

You can get under cabinet lights that are temperature controlled (which means you can change the colour to match the lights on your extractor. Other options including having a cooktop extractor so the cabinet over the hob has useful storage and a matching light. You could replan and put the hob on an island or peninsula. Or you could look at cladding the wall with something opaque and backlighting that instead of the over cabinet lights. Opaque choices include Corian, some Quartz and natural stone and some glass choices too.

Yes light temperature is OK, aiming for 4000k and Moro at least do a 4000k bulb anyway.

Cooktop extractor is not great as would impact drawer units under hob, plus heat rises so not sure about them anyway, plus concrete floor.

Moving hob to island also creates issues as roof and drains etc now built.

Not sure what you mean by ‘backlighting’ - lights behind the backsplash itself ?

LED strips for low level cupboard/island plinths have their merits in showcasing themselves, however aren't necessary if the space already houses good lighting from overhead lights or natural lighting. However, using under cabinet lighting underneath wall units works particularly well when the main lighting isn't required and the occupants wish to have a dimmer atmosphere. They can also serve the purpose of providing necessary light for worktops when being used for cooking etc. www.pwjarchitects.com

Perhaps look for a ceiling extractor instead of a canopy-unit (to build into the canopy)? These often require less height and the pipe can be placed on the side (left, right, back). Some have only remote control, others have buttons too. But plenty of build-in/undermount units have the option to place the motor max.3m away from the unit (please do regard accessibility though). A 15cm pipe would be sufficient. If the canopy is wider then the stove, you could add two leds on either side of the extraxtor unit. They could have their own switch, but a good electrician (that works with kitchen appliances often) can hook them on the on-switch of the unit (but then you can only use them with the unit on). Sidenote: A recirculation unit needs to be installed together with an exteractor fan to remove moist from the home. We use them in modern homes that have ventilation systems. Hi @pawilkins, Not sure there's many aesthetically pleasing look extractors unfortunately. What about something like this? The fan blades are hidden but no downlight though. Your electrician might be able to source something for you with a light and perhaps with trade discount.

Lots of worktop material is opaque so you can put a light behind.
