chesterfield sofa

Hi

I want my front reception room which is not very big as a bit formal living room. It has wall paper on one of the walls, a fire place, chandelier and a bay window. It has space for two sofas. I am thinking of buying a chesterfield sofa. Should the other sofa be chesterfield also or can it be some fabric sofa too. I don't want it too formal . Please suggest. I was thinking of these two--

Hi,

Chesterfield is a lovely sofa shape - fabric will make the room feel warmer and more modern (a luxe velvet on a chesterfield also looks absolutely amazing) A deep blue, burgundy, dark green or mustard yellow would all go with the wallpaper you already have

Chesterfields are very stylish and look beautiful in velvet, as long as you don’t have pets or young children! They do tend to be a little uncomfortable and do not support the head or neck very much, so I would try a few out before buying. Your second sofa has a scatter cushion back which tend to get scruffy looking with time and again not that supportive. I am a stickler for comfort so something with a more supportive back would be my choice.

Hi Ify. I like all of your chairs. I'm just wondering though having seen a glimpse of the coffee table whether a more slouchy armchair would work as these chairs are all quite formal? Then add lighter cushions to your sofa and a throw over an arm. The pic of your dining space didn't load though so would be good to see that

I think it tends to depend on other factors such as the flooring and wall colour, but I do prefer lighter coloured sofas generally. Lifestyle plays a huge factor as well because lighter coloured sofas will stain quickly!

Is your chesterfield a dark colour? Either of the second two would lighten the whole look. You could get another plainer chesterfield style in linen to contrast with the leather. Consider slip covers if you chose cream, maybe a pale grey would be more foregiving and match your silvery wallpaper.
