But I agree that if you are happy to put in the work then painting the doors and updating the handles would give you a fabulous look too and you could spend on the handles then. Were you keen on the bare wood feel? If your corridors are dark an off white painted door will help lift the space too. Ah, I understand. The hanging mechanism of mine has a spring which means that the door doesn’t fold up tight against itself - there would not be enough room for a lever handle, but the cup handle is fine. If you don’t have enough space perhaps flush fit handles would work? There are modern versions, but I rather like flush fit ring pulls. These are mostly intended for cabinets, but Willow and Stone sell some lovely examples in different sizes, and big enough to use on a folding door.
