I think that some form of pullout is your best option in there, you might be able to get a section of full hanging or a set of double hanging space, then you could have some cubby holes built for shoes etc in the tight corner. Im not sure if there is enough space, but another idea might be to make it into a really cosy bench seat with a custom cushion on top, this way you could have storage underneath and then a nice place to sit and read- but it might just be a little too tight for this.

When we moved to our cottage with bedrooms in the eaves, we found ourselves in possession of a space-robbing wardrobe made from nailed together bits of timber and copper piping for the hanging rails. The doors didn't fit, because of the sloping floor and the timber surround was unfathomable! We hired a carpenter to replace with a bespoke solution which would make good use of the eaves space whilst allowing some usable hanging areas (not full length), and shelving in the awkward spaces. What we now have is at least 3 m2 more floor space and a well organised range of drawers, shelves and hanging space. Thanks to Lee Stockley (LS Carpentry, Hastings) who did the excellent work with the mdf and the Birch Ply. Drawers are from the Pax range at Ikea and the leather handles are from a lovely little company in Lampeter called (surprisingly) the Leather Handle Company.

The door was opening on the other side and I hated it. The corner was too closed so we had him come back to make this change. He was supposed to do it in a better way so we can have the knobs still but he chose the easy way again. I’m not happy with the shelves either. The top shelf is way too big and the hanging space is lower because of this so we could only fit a few baskets underneath. Invest in an random orbital sander and a whole bunch of sandpaper. Like Katie suggested you could change handles. I would get some sturdier shelving as the ones there appear to already be bowing - 18mm MDF or plywood would work well. Rip out the ugly carpet and get some stick on vinyl tiles or wood planks. Cheap and easy and will last as you won’t be walking on them. Doors seam fine enough, maybe replace the hinges if you can’t salvage the old ones. Then you could match hinge and handle colour. I would paint the entire outside of the wardrobe in a dark colour to hide any imperfections. Paint the interiors in a pale neutral colour or maybe even paper the inner walls.
