I would paint the newel post and the handrail black. The spindles and the stringer could work in white same as the rest of your woodwork like architraves, skirting etc. I'm afraid I would carpet the stairs or at least a runner although expensive. You could sand them but that's also rather costly and you don't know what the quality is like under the grey paint. You could always paint them in white gloss, but slippery so not ideal. A white with less shine might look a bit dull. A natural runner with black edging would look smart..

Yes I think u's are right about the stair runner I think it would finish it but it just means changing my carpet upstairs on the landing 🤔 I like the idea of going darker on my panelling though, this is a pic of my top step

My walls and skirting etc are actually ammonite by farrow and ball, maybe elephants breath would be nice on the panelling, skirting, architrave?

EB could look really nice, depending on what way it faces. You could just find a runner to complement the carpet, these have the landing carpeted with just the runner on the stairs

I would stick to white for the spindles as you already have a lot of it. The handrail and post will look great in the same colour as the panelling. The stair runner will make a big difference but I would paint the stairs white first. If you are looking at F&B paints then Mole's Breath is a lovely dark grey.

Handrail and post would look nice in the darker shade but again just personal opinion I might keep it in the lighter one, will make the hall feel wider (not that it’s narrow!) and keep focus on the panelling and runner

What a lovely hallway and love your herringbone flooring. I think the dark stairs are unbalancing the space. I would have the stairs and panelling in a matching lighter shade and perhaps pick up the newel post and handrail in a darker shade.

A lovely runner will finish the space and I would add larger artwork on the stairway wall. They don’t need to match but larger artwork would be better.

Ok guys so have started, not sure if I like the colour, the spindles have yet to be done in same colour as above panelling, wot colour of frames should I get when getting new pictures for up the stairs and should I do my mirror in the taupe or a different colour, I have started painting it taupe, also I now don't think the canvas goes or am I overthinking and overwhelmed lol

I really like the colours you have used so far but some black would pull it all together. Do black frames for the stair pics and the mirror frame.
