How to use the space above a utility room in a converted barn
Comments (3)Have you seen the 'idiot abroad' show where he has an ensuite shed in his room in India? This reminds me of that brilliant episode and how useful it is to essentially have a shed indoors - love the paint store already on top of your utility but perhaps a indoor treehouse for either adults or kids to enjoy? Seriously though, think hard about whether you really want utility in the kitchen before getting rid of this eccentric gem....See MoreHow to make the most of your utility room or laundry room.
Comments (2)Can anybody advise/offer comments on the below: We are looking to add a utility room to our ground floor (soon to be extended) off the main hallway. What dimensions are ideal for a utility room with a washer and dryer, sink and some storage cabinets? The utility room would also be the place that I would store all my cleaning items (liquids, mop, bucket etc) and the household hoover too. Any ideas for wall/shelf storage for these items? Thanks....See MoreUtility room / shower room
Comments (3)hi Anna, The position of the sink, washer and drier will determine the layout of the rest of the space as they require mains water and drainage. So I would speak to a plumber about where this can be accessed in the room in a practical manner. If the shower is to the left of this playroom, then that might be where the waste and mains water can go, and therefore you might be able to have joinery built-in along the bottom wall (adjoining the stairs) and then a full-height wardrobe on the other side along the 2.8m Wall....See MoreShower room and Utility room in this space
Comments (2)It would be helpful if you could provide a few pieces of information: what's the size of the room ? "Roughly interpolated" from the relative sizes of the stairwell, I assume around 3m x 2.5m ? Where is the (external) soil pipe ? The plan seems to imply that to the left of your "target room" is where the current shower room sits - so is the drainpipe right there ? How do the joists run in that room ? Parallel to the "window side wall", or parallel to the stairwell side ? (This may play a role for how to get drainpipes out) Also, do you wish to subdivide the space into two rooms ? A shower room without window for privacy, on the left side, and the utility room to the front where the window is ? From my point of view, it's challenging to split that room, because of access and possible door placement. It'd make a comparatively large bathroom if not split, with space for a washing machine cupboard unit along the stairwell wall or window side. You could fit an opaque window, or use shutters ?...See More- last month
