Hi jonathandb1972, yes our architect suggested and prefers accessing the ensuite via the changing room too, but I'm not convinced. It will reduce usable wall space in the changing room and walking through one room to get to another just feels wrong (if you know what I mean!).

I don't have one in my island unit. I had one many years ago and didn't think it was effective. This afternoon I've been out to quote on kitchen worktops and they had a wide chimney island extractor over their 5 ring gas hob. To me it stood out like a sore thumb. I certainly couldn't get used to it (especially as a person who doesn't have or like them). I felt as though I would bash my head on it. Based on that I'd opt for something in the ceiling so it's not blocking any view.

Agree with all the above, especially about wren not pointing out to you about the extractor and speaking of which, what sort of extractor are you considering over the hob because you might have an issue with clearances. Ideally with electric hobs and especially induction the size of the extractor needs to be much wider than the hob https://www.neutratest.com/en/cooker-hood-guide/need-to-know-about-cooker-hoods/width to capture steam and cooking smells. Looking at the elevation my concern is will the wall unit door thats inline with the peninsular open ok once there's an extractor in position, Your hob is about 750 from the wall, wall unit is 300ish deep and if its a 500 door then its going to open to 800 and be over the hob/extractor zone.
