Hello all, I’m looking for help/ advice around staging furniture for my open plan lay out. Let me know if there’s anything I can change , add or remove to make the space more cohesive.Many thanks in advance

It looks really good.

just personal opinion..I’d remove the dark grey chair completely, put the smaller chair in front of the curtains (at the mid point, then move the skipper lamp to the corner and push the sofa towards the curtains a little ) and move the light grey to chair where the green one is.

will that shelf support a log burner?? I’d have the stone behind the fire all the wayto the ceiling. Paint the rest of the wall dark to lose the tv. Maybe line the niche in wood and add soft lighting and lose that floor lamp there. Consider your plant locations, neither are good for watering. Maybe consider a larger coffee table rather than so many side tables, keep one for a table lamp and personally i’d centre the art over the sofa

Thank you so much! This is the kind of advice I’m after . I definitely agree with a lot of these suggestions I just couldn’t put my finger on the issues. I have tried many configurations but it still didn’t feel quite there.I’ll definitely give yours a go . Is it the black arc floor lamp I should lose or the one opposite it ?

Yes, Karen makes a really good point there and as you get closer to deciding exactly what layout you'd want in the kitchen it's the practicalities like that - something we look at in detail with our clients. One of the reasons a lot of people choose to use a designer rather than a kitchen company is because we can sit down together and really chat through what matters to you in the space, how you use it, who'll use it and all the individual stuff that will make sure it's 100% bespoke to you - like the styling and flow between your rooms. There are plenty of independent kitchen designers like Karen (I think there are a couple of others on here too) who will be able to help you come up with a great layout. I guess one of the things to consider is if you just need the practicalities of a good space layout or if you want the layout (with 3D pics and videos to help you visualise the space) but also the design element and finishing of the design with lighting, colours and soft furnishings and all the things that turn a space from just being super practical, to super stylish too. The other thing I thing I mentioned before is that a good designer will also pass on their trade discount, so I know for a lot of my clients once I've passed that on, it makes the fee even less. Really don't be worried about how much you've got to spend- they key is making the most of it . Best wishes, Gina

Looking at the strength of light in the conservatory, I’d suggest investing in larger crittal style doors to conservatory might gain you more daylight into the dining area. Then, having a large opening into lounge area takes that light further into lounge too . But changing the fireplace to between the two areas ( like inspiration pic) would change the dynamic of the lounge room - so needs careful consideration- and we’d need more info on room size, furniture size and aspect of house to further comment on if it may work or not. Keeping the kitchen/breakfast room separate to dining room might mean that you can redesign kitchen to include more cabinet space and maybe bar seating for less formal meals . An opening with doors to dining from kitchen could be useful if you have formal dinners often. It’s a generous sized home and in my opinion the kitchen area looks to be not quite in proportion to the home size. As it’s bunched you to allow a table in there too. This is just an observation... it might be that it works perfectly for you !

Having suggesting taking down the wall around your living room door, I’ve just noticed your lovely wood flooring which woudl get messed up by that - unless you can get spare planks? If you don’t want to mess with the floor then you could consider inserting an internal window next to the door, where you currently have the square white mirror and cabinet. You could also replace the sitting room door with a glazed door. Another couple of ideas to help make your living room feel more spacious - without making the actual room bigger: 1) I wonder if there is storage taking up space in your living room? For example the cabinets each side of the TV? If so then if you re jig the loo into a small loo and a small storage room, you can move some storage there and free up sitting room space. 2). I notice you have a big dining table in the sitting room - is this used much, seeing as the kitchen is big enough for a table? If not, then removing it or replacing with a small extending table would free up space.

I would do exactly what you are planning. I would knock the family room and kitchen together. The only extra thing is that I might turn the existing study into a utility/ bootroom. It makes sense if you are trying to keep the budget down, if you have got enough rooms or if you see that big space behind the garage as a possible space for a big future extension.

Do give it a go, my reservation is the light grey chair is too big in front of the tv wall but hard to tell from a render! I meant lose the floor lamp in front of the tv wall, you could also consider wall lights, so you’re layering the light levels plus they don’t encroach on the floor space! if you went for wall lights you could also lose the arc lamp though?

looks like its going to be a great space!
