Staircase help

Hi everyone i would love some help and input on my staircase. We have just had a new staircase fitted and I can’t figure out how to do the bannister rail and newel post. It’s quite a weird turn so I just can’t visual how it will be. I have added a picture of my inspiration and a picture of the stairs we have.
Is there an ai app that I could use?
Should we just not have a bannister rail or spindles? I have a baby and small children so I feel it might be quite unsafe without.
Maybe we should end the rail before the turn? What do you guys think?

We are in France and there’s a lot of crazy floating steps with no rails over here. Not my style I do love a nice balustrade with spindle and newel post

I’m reluctant to paint the bannisters anything but white and varnish as that’s what they’ve always been and I like the smoothness of hundreds of hands touching them (it’s my grandmothers house and the house my mother was born in...) but am keen to paint the stairs. The bottom stairs currently have FB light blue on them which is nice but I was hoping to go a little darker without darkening too much- maybe Oval Room blue? And my other question is about skirting boards- I’d be inclined to do them white but would that look strange on the stairs if I have painted stairs, white skirtings and then painted walls up to dado height? Thanks again for help... painting really is the hardest bit...!

Hi Moving the stairs could be quite tricky as it looks like a lot of structural work needs to be done first as both of these two walls could be load bearing walls. I would recommend speaking to a structural engineer or architect first

You don’t need to sand down to bare wood in fact because old paint and varnish can contain lead it’s undesirable to create lots of dust from old paints. What you do need to do is get off any loose or peeling paint, then paint with a wood primer, then fill and sand any holes that you inevitably find when you start painting. Then vacuum and wash it all down and prime again. You will need to prime a third time (good news this is lots quicker than sanding) the objective it to get a flat plain base and ensure you don’t see any of the dark stain/shelac from below. Don’t forget to plan ahead and don’t start painting if you are going to need to use the stairs during the drying time and choose quick drying paints for convenience, you will also need a small brush and a gloss roller and tray. Personally I would paint everything a very pale dove grey rather than white for practical reasons- it will still look white especially against colours. I would also consider painting the risers in different shades of the same colour- firstly primary colours are not easy to live with and they make a marmite first impression and unless the rest of your house is painted in the same way they probably will not go with much. And the alternate means likely just buying two paints and mixing them together with white- mix all the colours before you start too to ensure there are enough colours for each riser.

The original stairs are not safe, as you say, a child could easily fall through that gap. I think I would add some kind of wooden spindles (straight not round) to fill the gap then paint the lot in one colour. Go for straight spindles which tie in better with the original style. I’m not sure what era the white staircase is, it doesn’t look that original to me?

Far too dangerous to leave it as it is, and in the U.K. it wouldn’t be allowed. Have you looked on Pinterest or the Houzz photos of staircases for inspiration?
